Motor Missing
Hey Guys,
I've got a 2000 VTR1000 (obviously!) and I'm having a slight miss in the engine. I live in Florida and it is obviously hot in the summer! It seems to do it the most when the engine isn't up to temp yet (cool, or cool) or when it is really hot from riding slow or waiting at a light. It only does it when the rpms are about 2000-2500 and unloaded, meaning now accellerating or stable rpms. It also does it when just idling when hot!
I can't find anything wrong with it and have no clue what to do now! It can't be a wire short because it only does it at low rpms or the like. It is sort of like just a slight chain slap from the miss. it doesn't do it alll the time and it isn't all that often...which is why it is hard to find!!
Anyway, thought you guys might have heard of this one.

actually VTR's are known for this slight stumble at low RPM.
mine did it until i installed a DynoJet stage I kit, but just raising the needles by one or two shims (research it, its a well documented mod) resolves this problem

Had the same problem. Pull the choke out 1/4 inch or so to richen the mixture up and ride it. If the bottom end is lean this should make it better. If it does, then you know the bottom and mid range jetting needs attention.
I fixed mine by shimming the needles .040".
