Manual CCT change!! OH SH*T
Manual CCT change!! OH SH*T
Ok, so im changing my tensioners as we speak. I pulled some tensioners off of a 2001 sh... Only i didnt pull them with the method I supposedly should have used. I just yanked them babies out.
Well, they are at full tension. They arent goin in the bike for hell or come high water. I have been desperately looking for a way to make the tool the manual says to make to adjust the tension....
Second problem. How do I know if I damaged the MCCT's when I pulled them off the other hawk? They seem to have ALOT of tension. But everyone on these threads has me freakin out now...
I have the Rear MCCT out... I have 2 full tensioned low mileage CCT's ready to go in.
PLEASE HELP!

To install an auto cct (aka, auto self-destruct) the cap bolt must first be removed. Then, while tuning the exposed slot head ?ccw? apply pressure against the head of the unit. Doing this will allow the plunger to retract...keep going until it stops. All you need to do now is hold the screwdriver in this position to keep the plunger retracted while installing the unit into position. This may be a bit tricky and a few tries could be necessary, but you must seat unit with the plunger fully retracted. Once you have either allen bolt snugged up THEN you can "unscrew" the driver slowly thus allowing the tensioner spring to do it's thing. A helper can really make things easier with this procedure too, one person holding the unit in place while the other installs the mounting bolts.
Thats exactly what I did. I ended up finding a super tiny pocket knife that worked real well for a holder.... However, when it slips out it releases the tension real fast... So, I begining to think that I didnt do any damage by removing them without releasing the tension.
Like u said... It takes a couple tries and that means it slips fast and releases the tension.
So, am I right in saying that releasing the tension too fast is a load of horse ****? I mean I understand how it could possibly make the cam chain skip, but not damage the CCT itself.
