my speedo went out on me the other day and my odometer has a series of dashes on it and no mileage....shorted guages? bad sensor? help please 98 hond vtr 1000f

 

This is the first I've ever hear of this happening. It does sound like a short/bad ground though.

 

where does the guage get its input from? speed sensor? i should test that first dont you think?

 

Take off your fairing and follow the wires... VTR are notorious for dirty connections. Have u had any hard thumps that could affect the speedo? If not, follow the wires, especially the grounds to any connections and clean them...

-clean
-makes sure there has no been blunt trama
-loose connections on the harness
