License plate Lights

Im going to put an integrated turn signal/brake light in and was thinking of just zip tieing the license plate on. Does anyone know if you are obligated to have the license plate lit up?

Here it's necessary in order to pass inspection. I think it's the same everywhere, except FL and some other states where you don't need an inspection.

Well there is no inspection here but you can be stopped and issued a ticket for it.

I searched but didn't find much. Is there a previous thread on home made fender eliminators?

Well the integrated light that I got has a plate light in it. So by moving the plate up under the taillight it gets lit.

It looks like you should be ok. Here's what I found.

(1) Every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall be equipped with at least two head lamps with at least one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle, which head lamps shall comply with the requirements and limitations set forth in sections 42-4-202 and 42-4-204 to 42-4-231 and part 3 of this article where applicable.

(2) Every motorcycle shall be equipped with at least one and not more than two head lamps that shall comply with the requirements and limitations of sections 42-4-202 and 42-4-204 to 42-4-231 and part 3 of this article where applicable.

(3) Every head lamp upon every motor vehicle, including every motorcycle, shall be located at a height measured from the center of the head lamp of not more than fifty-four inches nor less than twenty-four inches, to be measured as set forth in section 42-4-204 (3).

(4) Any person who violates any provision of this section commits a class B traffic infraction.

A license plate light is another lifeline from people rear-ending you at night time, IMHO.

Not sure why the headlight stuff is relevant here... but anyways.... Those integrated are illegal here in Ca but that is of no real concern either.

After trimming my rear fender, I did the old school mod to get a license plate light. What you do is install a clear piece of plastic (cut out a small section on the bottom of the tail light and install a clear piece, or leave it open if you don't mind your tail light filling up with crap) in the bottom of the tail light which allows the tail light to also illuminate the license plate.

I just copied the whole section. I got a pair of Tag Boltz from here:
http://www.customdynamics.com/illumi...#LED_Tag_Bolts

They have leds for extra turn signals at the ends too. Like nothing said, it's yet another lifeline.

Here in oHIo a non-functional license plate light is Probable Cause for the cops to pull you over.........the fact that oHIo plates are highly reflective not withstanding.

Those tag bolts are pretty sweet. Harbor Freight has 9in strips of different colored water proof leds for like 9 bucks. I was thinking of putting a strip of blue ones in the radiator intakes. Maybe i will just put a strip above the plate too. Kind of have a nice blue glow all over the bike.
