License Plate Light

Anyone got any advise on how I can light up my license plate since the stock light was removed when fender plastic cut back. I'm hoping to find some kinda aftermarket rear brake light assembly which incorporates a license plate light since my plate is now directly beneath the tail light assembly.

Re: License Plate Light

I can't see what your tail looks like but you can find LED lights in pretty much any shape, size and color. They're ussually pretty easy to install and you can find some really bright ones. Make sure you look at them first though as some are as bright as a chesp night light.

I've heard you can drill holes under the brake light to allow illumination. Also look at www.targa-acc.com or www.customdynamics.com for custom lic plate led's.

Re: License Plate Light

It will most likely be the same as mine, where the led is fixed into a small hole at the rear of the light unit ( black plastic ) If you dont use it then just plug it with sealant.

Re: License Plate Light

I altered my stock tail light to light up my plate. I used a dremal tool to cut out 80% or so of the flat area on the underside of the tail light. Cut a piece of clear plastic from a CD jewel case to fit and clear RTVed it in place.

Why not just switch to a clear taillight lens? Ebay, Lockhart-Phillips, and Parts Unlimited are sources for clear lens kits. 8)

My "El Cheapo" conversion..... Used jewel case that was headed for the garbage can....a bit of RTV.....time....... Total cost.... 50 cents?

I have a set of brushed stainless plate bolts that have a LED in them. They have directional slots to alow you to aim the beam of light onto the plate. They cost about $30. They look great.

Re: License Plate Light

I just took the stock license plate light, removed it from thr plate bracket and mounted it up under the tail light where the reflector was.
