leaking fluid from the right side

I taste the fluid and I think is coolant!I saw that the leaks are from the wather pump but insignifiant! In 1000 mile the coolant reserve is still at maximum! It would be the gasket from wather pump!Respect for the bikers!

Are you sure it is not from the "weep" hole on the right side of the engine? If it is, Then there is nothing to worry about. It is normal to have some coolant come out there from time to time.

That is the drain hole from your water pump. When coolant comes out it means one of the seals is not working properly.

If I can remember correctly, I think some older models did this sometimes as the previous poster has suggested.

If it was my bike I would be replacing them as soon as possible, but I am VERY particular with my bike.

I had that problem, got a shop to replace the seal, and I still have the problem. From what I've read it's more a PITA for keeping the motor clean than anything serious. Is SH the only bike to have this 'feature?' I haven't seen it on other bikes.

It mainly leaks by when the thermostat is shut (bike cold). The pump runs at a high discharge pressure and the mechanical seal will leak by a little bit. If you can't watch a drop form and fall away I'd say it's okay. I replaced a mechanical seal on mine last year. It's pretty involved.

On the '98 the hole is open, but I believe in later models they put a little rubber cap/plug in the hole. I remember seeing bikes with the cap/plug in the hole.

Mine weeped occaisionally the 6 months I had it, then it pretty much stopped. Never had a cooling system problem in the 6 years I had the bike.

No cap on my '00, but it does have a small spout that connects to a piece of vent line which routes over to the left side of the bike and down.

I have had it drip some fluid once on me (about a month ago)... It was after a long ride and the leak was about the equivalent of someone spitting on the ground. Hasn't dripped any fluid at all since that incident so I am just keeping an eye on it for now.
