i think you will find more people swapping them without ever having any issues. Mostly pre-imptive. Two local honda shops claim they never see these "bulletproof" machines in thier shops with CCT issues. I have 12,500 miles on my 02 SH with stock CCT's. Havent decided rather to swap for manuals or not. But it would be interesting for find out the "Failure" rate of the factory CCT.

They last anywhere from 1800 (a member on here who had this happen to him at less than two thousand miles from new) to 100,000 miles (bikes with more than this miles sold and still have stock CCTs, unknown if ever replaced), the warning signs of them failing is a loud clanking noise and a destroyed engine.

There is no predictable way to guess when you will get hit by lightning. It is fully 100% random and not gradual in any way. A sudden cliff that appears without warning.

If you search "CCT FAILURE" you will find 4 pages of threads that you can read through, and I promise you will find your answer there.

mine started to fail at 59,000 miles, i changed mine out for 2 new OEM ones for 180.00. installed them in my bike and bam problem solved no more chatter. i do have a slight tick at low rpm with a load but i think that is the carbs chattering, who knows. good luck to you

Boy, that's almost three times as much as the ones I made up for the VTR, and it includes new gaskets and will never need replaced due to failure. But hey, whatever.
