HISS ?

HISS ?
hi !
First, please excuse me for my poor english...
I've a 2002 vtr. with HISS system.
I've a big probleme with it:
the engine run up to 3500rpm ... but not after . It's not a mecanical problem, we are opened the engine for control timing camshaft.. and it's OK.
We think it's an electrical problem. we are control all wires connections, the two coil. sparks are news.
We this it's the CDI... or amplifier
But I wan't to know if it's obliged to change , with ce CDI, the lock set & keys.
On French VTR, the HISS is linked with ECU.. so if you try to start with an other ECU or try to bypass the ignition lock, the motorbike don't want to start....
Is the same with US VTR CDI/ECU ? or I can mount (only an US CDI an my engine start ?
Regards,
Michael

Welcome aboard.
I'm sure someone will chime in with a solution for you. While we're waiting it's my understanding that France has a mandated regulation that limits HP to 100. To me it seems very likely that the ECU is where this control resides. Replacing it with a unit from another market (maybe not Japan) would solve the issue. Since I don't know how the control unit works to limit power, this is just a guess. Strikes me as a very crude (and very unnecessary) way to accomplish the HP reduction.
What are the penalties for altering the bike?

Hi,
In France, the Law is clear: if we altering the bike , in accident, the insurance will don't work and we pay all damages even if we are not responsible about the accident, and more we risk a penalty fee of € 30,000 ($ 40,000) and two years in jail, even the confiscation of the vehicle that will go to the pound to be destroyed.
Modification is :
upgrade the power,
tires modifications like we can see in USA,
or changes parts who are not in original part at the end of factory.
.........
exemple: If we mount "for race only" like (M4 or Yoshimura USA) exhaust we can have a 3 penality of 400€ (135€ not original part + 135€ part for race + 135€ sound is over the maximum legal autorised (92db.) + need to replace origin part to the bike or car, and can be pounded + fee's pound )

VTR's sold in Canada and the United States do not have a HISS system. I believe Firestorms sold in the United Kingdom did. Maybe someone on VTR1000.org can help you. I hope that you find an answer.

At least you don't have the NSA looking at everything you do. Oh, wait, yeah you have that too.

Wow, this story hurts my feelings. Worked with a lot of French people here in NYC. They all like it here much better. Such a love for bikes (food and wine too).
Sorry, dont know about the hiss thing, but shocked you cant touch the bike.

Get your problem - As the guide is geared more for adding a key to the existing HISS system rather than swapping over the ECU for fault diagnosis.
Have you tried replacing coils? as a cheaper to begin with experiment. Otherwise you'll probably need a later ECU and matching key set from the same bike to test and hopefully get things running. Don't envy your for complication and potential cost - esp when later models 01-05 are if like UK - a bit rarer than early 97-01 models.
As suggested earlier by comedo join up on vtr1000.org and post your problem/conundrum up in the workshop section - as we're a bit closer and with a few members with experience with the HISS model, someone might be of some help.
