New HISS key
Hi i have a 2002 Firestorm, i wanted to get a couple of spare keys cut. My firestorm has the HISS security, Do i need to have the spare keys cut at my local Honda dealer or do you guys have any tips of getting it done cheaper some other way. My Jeep grand cherokee dealer charged me $150 to cut a key because it had a transponder chip ! i hope my Firestorm will not be this much, just thought i would check here first before going to Honda.

The HISS has a transponder in the key... You need the small metal plate with a lot of numbers on it that came with the two original keys... Take that to Honda and get a new key with the right ID... I dunno if they can match it up by frame no if you haven't got the metal tag...
If not you are looking at either a brand spanking new set of locks & keys (with HISS parts) And that is not even close to cheap...
Or, ripping out the HISS and being without, and then you can get keys done in any shop down the street... Not good for safety though... And needs a fair bit of knowledge...

For some cars, if you can find directions on the internet on how to program the keys (somethings a combination of turning the engine on and off, switching keys, flashing the lights, etc) and you can find the proper transponder blanks for sale THEN you can have your local hardware store cut the keys and program them yourself. I did this for two different cars thanks to the folks on ebay and the keys work great and were cheap and normal keys.
I don't have any clue if this works for motorcycles or not.

Since you have the original with the transponder, you can go get a couple regular keys cut to match that will turn the ignition. Take the transponder receiver out of the ignition, route it somewhere out of the way and attach the transponder key to it. Done it on a few vehicles that we broke the only transponder key that we had. Works fine.

Thanks for the information Bandit, i will look into it.
I am a little hesitant about the thought of my only original transponder key on the transponder tho. If this key was broken i wood go for it. Thanks again for the tip.
