High altitude running
High altitude running
I've read Autoteach's saga about his carbon'd up engine apparently due to a ride in the rockies. https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=20284 Nothing that high back east, but it has me thinking. Are carburators really that inflexible? All my adult lif I've only had injected vehicles (yes, including my '82 cx500T), so other than theory I don't have a lot of experience with carbs.
So the question - is this another application for a Flo-Comander? Would that device allowed for enough leaning across the entire band to prevent what happened?
What is the alternative? Can Autoteach never go back to the mountains?

From the info in that thread autoteach's bike was probably on the rich side to begin with, and then got even worse at high altitude... With the jetting spot on at normal alt it should work better...
And yes, the FC can probably compensate enough to get you close to correct at high altitude... And nope... Haven't tried... But about one jetsize leaner should do it...

When my bike was spot on here, it got cranky at Clingman's Dome, 7500 ft of altitude. If you want self adjusting carbs, get a gl1500(pretty sure that they were self adjusting to temp, altitude).
Do I have a problem with my bike, yes. Was it evident on my trip to CO, no. It is now, though. Any extended riding at altitude is going to cause issues unless you are jetted for that altitude or something within 5k feet. I feel that had I been jetted for denver, vail would not have been a problem.

It is also different when you are running an al out beat down fest on the bike and cruising. If the temps are high, you can run the extra fuel, when it is cold (talking cylinder temps), that excess fuel has no business in there. If I toured CO using the honor system, it wouldn't be as much of a problem. (honor system= get honor, stay honor OR maybe it was get on her, stay on her).
