Even if the bike was ridden daily by the PO, after 2 years it's due for another carb tear-down and cleaning. You could also adjust the pilot screws at that time.
Mine has over 67,000 miles on it, and many others on here actually ride their bikes as well, and have high mileage.

Thx, I was thinking the same thing about the carbs the local shop charges $60 a hour labor I would rather try it myself, however I don't have the proper tools or a garage as I live in an apartment complex which also doesn't allow automotive work in the parking lot I don't have anywhere to work on it. I might be able to do it at work though My Hawk has 41k on it.
b) While there definitely are things to mess up, the special tools you need are a couple of screw drivers and socket wrenches. It's not hard to get into and work on the carbs, and doesn't take much space either, but if you have no place to store/work on it that's your biggest hickup. If you do it yourself, and especially take pictures, these guys will help along the way and offer quite a bit of help and save you time/money...

I feel your pain as working on a bike here in NYC on the sidewalk is pretty traumatic. Kinda hard too if you dont finish it by dark & have an immobilized bike. I have had to push it 8 blocks back to my garage.
