HELP - I can't get the front cylinder crank vent hose back on the airbox

I pulled the airbox to remove the pair system, which was successful. I am trying to put it all back together and for the life of me I cannot get the hose and clamp back on the airbox for the fron crank breather. Any suggestions? Is there an easier way to do this?

That one's tricky. If it's the hose I'm thinking of... the longer "s" one and not the short strait one.

When I'm putting the airbox on, it's the first hose I attach. I attach it to the airbox along with the hose clamp, then lower the airbox onto the two short carb intakes, then attach the longer "s" hose at the rear of the airbox. Then I screw the airbox into the carbs. I can't really get it attached if I have the airbox already installed.

Well, I got it, pissed me off for about an hour but its on there, minus the pair system. Would everything be copasetic if I were to vent the crank breathers to atmosphere through small filter or a catch can? Could save alot of trouble every time you gotta take the airbox off.

Whenever I do work with the air box off I disconnect that hose frim the head before trying to put it onto the airbox. Gives me a but more room to play with

I've tried diconnecting it from the head too. Then replacing it after the airbox is on. I only did it once. To me, making that second connection aint any easier than just doing the one at the airbox. I ended up sitting on the floor with a flash light and long-*** needle nose trying to get it back on. After probably a dozen times of removing the air box I've got that top connection down pretty well. Takes a few tries, but with some patience it can be done in less than 5 minutes.

Hmmm, I usually don't have any problems with that particular hose nor do I have small hands, in fact, I think they're a little weird!

But what I do is put my hand through the front frame brace in front of the air box, and reach around and put that on the front nipple. It also makes it easier to attach the diaphragm air supply too!

But be cautioned, there is a veryyyyyy sharp end of a cotter pin through the throttle linkages, I had a puddle of blood underneath me before I even realized that I was bleeding....

But my carbs were on nicely

It seems to help to lube up all involved parties with a bit of motor oil or vaseline. This way they slide right on.

I was thinking of extending the breather hose a few inches to make it easier to reassemle. I don't wanna deal with that every time I have to work on it.

Attach the hose to the airbox first, then lay the box in, then connect the hose to the head. This odd method worked after much trial and error, and lots of cursing.
