Help, all turn signals not working

I have tried searching the forums and have not been able to find an answer to this. Recently I noticed that my turn signals were not operating. I assumed it was a fuse, which has been known to happen, but when I checked the fuses all was fine. After further investigation, I noticed that whenever I tried the signals, there was a weird humming noise coming from near the battery. The humming noise turned out to be what looks like some sort of 3-wire resistor labeled MITSUBA FR-3303. I am curious what may be causing this and if anyone has had this issue in the past or knows what this resistor is.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

sounds like the turn signal relay (flasher).

So does the noise mean that the relay flasher is bad, or is there possibly another source that is causing this to happen? Perhaps the lights, the switch, or does the relay flasher make a noise when it is going or has gone bad? I have checked all of my bulbs, and wires going to my lights. Everything seems to be in tact and connected properly.

Is the relay clicking at the proper speed?

My relay was internittent and I though it was the relay, but I have a multimeter and was able to trace the problem to a short in the switch on the handlebar.

Apparantly that switch goes bad quite often on Superhawks.

As for the resister, check the SHawk wiring diagram

There is realy no clicking, it is kind of a humming or buzzing sound. It is a steady humming noise, so there is really no way to determine the speed. I wonder if it may be the switch. That will be my next thing to check out. If anyone else has had this happen please chime in. I have never really had this kind of problem before so I am not really sure where to start.

Where is the humming location? Right side of the bike, on the outside of the sub-frame? If so, then it's the flasher. If it is elsewhere, let us know and we can do some more online troubleshooting with you.

Sounds like the switch is working, if it is causing another component to hum, it is sending voltage.

To get to the flasher, you have to pull the rear plastic off. Two philips head screws under the seat, and 2 allen heads just aft of the tank. Watch out that you don't break the tabs off.

Good luck.

The part number you gave us, is the turn signal relay. If it is humming, and buzzing, thats what happens when they go bad. That or it just stops working.

Hi 2-GO,
Yes the FR-3303 is the flasher relay. If you want to test the switch, you can try this:
1) Ignition off, key out
2) Unhook the connector from the relay. You'll need a jumper to hook the grey wire and the white/green wire together. (a bent spade connector works well)
3) Make sure you don't have the jumper touch the green wire or any metal on the bike or you'll get a short
4) Turn the ignition on (you don't need to start the bike)
5) Pushing the turn signal switch should give a steady on for your signals. If it doesn't, then your switch needs attention. If the signal lights work, it's your relay.
6) Don't leave the turn signal on too long, just a couple seconds to avoid heat build-up.

I've thought about this a little and wanted to add a warning. If the switch is bad, like a grounding issue, there is a possibility of melting a wire. If you do want to test the turn switch, you should temporarily change the 10amp brake/turn fuse to a smaller one like a 3 amp.

Thank you, it definitely sounds like the flasher relay has gone bad. However I will try jumping those two wires just to further troubleshoot it before I buy any parts that I may or may not need. I really appreciate all of your help and advice. This site is awesome.
