Hello and Opinions
Hi All,
New to the forum and Happy July 4th to all. I wanted to pose this question and get some opinions from the experts here.
I have a friend who is selling his 1998 Superhawk 996 with 15K miles for a about 1800.00. It has been dropped on the right side and have some scratches but no cracks. The hole (fairing)where the screws mount the fairing to the frame needs to be repaired but looks like I can put a rubber or metal washer. One of the mods done is a high mount Jardine exhaust.
Is this a good deal? I know it is below KBB for trade in?
Its a Honda so does it have the honda reliability?
For 1800 I think I cant go wrong If I dont like the bike I can turn around and sell her for the same?
Is the VTR 1000 the same as the 996?
Other question is How do I have the CCT checked, do I take it to a mechanic or can I look at it? Sorry about these questions, but thanks in advance!

Assuming no frame damage yeah thats a great deal. The vtr1000f and the superhawk/firestorm are all the same. In europe the RC51 is known as the vtr1000sp1/sp2. The ccts are an easy swap. there are several guides on this site for the do it yourselfer. As far as reliability goes with proper maintenance there are several people on this forum with over 50k on their bikes. Welcome to the site and enjoy the wealth of information here

As for how to check for APE CCT's. You can easly view them by looking at the motorcycle.
Generally speaking they are red in color where they meet up with the engine block. The stockers are gray in color.

It does sound like a good deal. As for the CCTs you didn't say if they were the stock auyo one or aftermarket manual units. If aftermarket, do a search on how to adjust them. If they are stock units, then you should replace them as you don't know how they have been treated. I run the stock auto units and have never had a problem with them, but run whatever lets you sleep best at night.....

Thanks for all of your answers. The Bike looks like it still has the Automatic CCT. But it also has the steel braided brake lines and original toolkit.
I went ahead and purchased the hawk.
Thanks to all again.

8541Hawk, Thank you for your offer and will/may take advantage of it..I have pm'd you with contact info.
Like in my previous post I did buy the Hawk based on many factors and one of them is the information and people on this forum. Another is that they are a "unique" type of sportbike...
