Heads Gone - Need a bit of help

First, Hi all
I'm new to the forum and as with all newbies i need help on this 2003 storm, it has 24k on the clock was a dream to ride, it's my second VTR.

So anyway, I need some help, Stupidly I left my beloved running outside to charge the battery after a 3 month break. After about 30mins I heard the engine stop and went out side - Oil and water on the floor and oil in the expansion tank -135c on the temp gauge, I thought being a Honda I could do this...I think it was the fan failing as I just took it off and it doesn't spin freely.

At this point I'm pretty sure the heads gone - I just removed the carbs, omg that was a pain in the butt.
Here are pics of the valves in situ before i remove the heads, there is build up on them from what i can see... is this normal crud? They go up n down when manually turning the crank.

I have no idea how to remove the heads so any pointers will be great. First time i have ever attempted head removal. What is the best way forward? remove both heads then how do i take the cams off?
I'm sure googling I will find out how tomorrow as i'm done for today, any tips would be great.
What's likely to have been damaged in my stupidity.... How can I asses the damage?

Heads a mare to get off -

My Awesome Storm in Tasmania!

Doing it myself seems a great chance to learn my storm a bit better, even though I'm not a fan of this sort of big surgery.

Any help on this would be much appreciated !
.

When you get the heads sorted, you really should consider using a better quality (brand) fuel. That is an excessive amount of carbon on the valves.
Also a valuable lesson to never use the vehicles charging system to restore a weak/dead battery. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

Are there any obvious spots of leakage?

And I've seen many a valve look just like that. Those 2 pics don't tell any tale to me. Here's a couple random pics I took when I worked at the bike shop (inline 4).
