There is a tank vent tube that leads down to the ground on the front left side of the bike. It can pick up water while riding in the rain which creates vapor lock in the tank. Tank vapor lock will not let gas flow from the petcock properly, thus the poor running.

Another cause is water getting past the front spark plug cover and creating a misfire.

You can use some dielectric grease in the plug boots to help keep moisture out...

Same problem. I have been stuck on the side of the road more than once in a downpour. I may have better luck rubbing the dielectric grease on my skin as a water repellant instead.

On the sidestand switch...

Remove the bolt retaining the switch that is on the side stand itself, clean and pack the backside of the switch (there is a "tang" in a recessed cavity that engages the sidestand), and pack the cavity with waterproof (not dielectric) grease; reassemble.

I sealed all the connectors including the ignition switch with some electrical grade RTV 4 yrs ago after the same happened to me in the rain. Haven't had that problem since. By the way, dielectric grease only prvents corrosion.

And as for the side stand switch, cut the wires and tie them together. Who needs that lame switch anyway.
