I would like to try stock jetting and was wondering what was the best way to do that. Do any of the jet kits give you the ability to go to stock? I could check the carbs and order the non-stock items but it looks like that could easily exceed the cost of a kit. I don't want to take the bike down in the prime part of the riding season and ordering OEM parts would take some time.

Why exactly do you want stock jetting? Do you have stock pipes? You can set any jet kit to any setting, but it takes a bit of work. Obviously the main and pilot jet are easy, but the needle is the tricky part. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, don't bother going stock. It will run poorly.

I do have stock pipes and a K&N. I am not a fan of K&Ns. They may flow slightly more but they let more dirt in so I will go back to paper. My bike acutally runs pretty well so I'm guessing it is on the rich side. When it comes to modifications I like to do them myself and not depend on the competitence of the previous owner. I just want to get a good baseline to start from.

I would stick with the jet kit and remove the K&N filter. These bikes prefer stock filters anyways. These bikes come stock a little lean to pass emission specs, so it is actually in your advantage to have a jet kit. The only downside is you have to work at getting it tuned correctly.
