gas SMOKE? or gas SMELL? mine does the same thing, smells rich, but does no stutter at all and runs like a raped ape. I just attribute it to a VTR thing. my bike only has 2500 miles on it, so its practically new. Last time I was at the shop to get it jetted, they put it on the dyno and said it didn't need it, all the numbers were great.

If you're blowing black smoke, you are running rich. If your buddy is smelling gas while following you, he probably forgot to latch his gas cap.

At the altitude you and I are riding in, we are definitely running rich. Have you jetted and tuned your bike for mile high carving?

If the bike runs well I wouldn't worry too much. If its just a smell, tell your buddy to deal with it, if he can stay in front of you he wont smell it

I took it to fey meyers thinking it "needed" to be jetted. they put it on the dyno and told me I did not need to jet unless I get a new exhaust.
so I just trusted their opinion.
