Fuel Leak out of Rear Exhaust Manifold

Hello All. I am new to the forum and very glad it exists. I hope to be able to help out as well as be helped through my membership.

I have joined because i have a problem i can not sore out.

i have a 98. I have dynojet stage 1 jet kit installed with the drilled needle holder and all. K&N filter and Jardine high pipes.

180 and 185 mains with 48 pilots 2 1/4 turns out on air mixture screw. Seems to be running well.

TPS is around 600K ohms.

Problem happened after syphoning gas from the tank. Gas was filthy.

I used a squeeze ball style syphon leaving the petcock on the tank with the tank off the bike.

Syphoned the fuel out and put new fuel in. Tank back on hoses back where they go and ran the bike in place for 15min.

After running the bike I noticed a gas smell and then saw it dripping from the bottom of the rear exhaust header mount. I figure gas has gotten into the cylinder and is flowing out through the exhaust valve and on into the header.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I plan to drain and check the oil. Beyond that I am not sure where to start. Would gas leak out there if the float valve wasn't seating? I need to check where the overflow tubes are. seems like they would be leaking.

Could it be in the petcock? It seems like the fuel would need to be going through the rear carb to get to the point of leaking out the rear header.

Again. Thanks for having me. It is a privilege to be here.

Has the bike been sitting for a longish period of time? Any possibility that the fuel wasn't coming out of the exhaust, but dripping/ running down on it? Float valve not seating given that the fuel was "filthy" seems likely. If the float valves were the problem, you might want to consider an in line fuel filter and giving the.tank a though cleaning. While the tank is off you might want to pull the petcock and replace the internal screen.
