Electrical advice please

A few months ago my R/R went out on my 98 VTR. It's been too cold to ride until recently so I got a replacement for it just the other day. I bought the updated Honda R/R. When I unplugged the wiring harness from the old R/R, i could see that the insulation had been melted off of one of the wires and the corresponding end on the connector was burned. I would greatly appreciate any helpful advice on different ways to go about fixing this. Thanks.

ElectroSport sells replacement terminals and the plugs you need to do the repair. I remember the unit is about ten dollars, if you can work a soldering iron without hurting yourself or the person standing next to you, you're home free.

Thanks for you help. This "6-pin new style" connector looks like the closest match to what is on the bike. But there are only 5 wires to connect. Will this one work anyway?
