it shouldn't be too hard to pull off the tensioner and inspect it. I don't think this is your problem though.

Does not sound like CCT...CCT just gives you metallic rattle and next thing you know you in for loads of money to repair engine

What you describing sounds like fueling or spark plugs problem, but of course can be something else.

How long since the carbs were balanced? I used to have to do mine every 3000km to keep the bike running smoothly.
