bike running rough, smell gas at stop lights
The bike seems to be struggling for either air or fuel...when I roll on the throttle theres a huge flat spot or "gap" where more throttle does not make more engine rpm or power, then it takes off...from about half throttle onward it pulls hard, just sucks when trying to tip in going from maintenance throttle to power.
when I'm stopped at stop lights with the bike running I can smell gas, but can't smell gas when the bike is off...
After using the search feature it seems like either a petcock issue, or, since the airbox has been off the carbs a number of times maybe the gaskets between the airbox and the carbs have gone bad.
opinions? other places I should start or check? thanks in advance experts!

Sounds like the petcock. The seals on the airbox would not cause this problem.
You might want to check the carb isolators (the rubber bits that mount the carbs to the engine) but that would be a long shot.
Check for fuel leaking out of the lower drain fitting on the petcock. If there is fuel there then the diaphragm needs to be replaced.

I saw you can get the repair kits fairly cheaply, or I think there's people parting out bikes that might have a petcock for sale I can just swap out, looks like I have my place to start.
