Bike Doesn't Want to start! Please help!!

Hello everyone! I have a 1998 996 and it just wont start. It turns over and cranks, Its getting gas, all the lights and gauges work and the battery is in good shape, Checked all the fuses all good. All of a sudden it was running and the next day its not. I pulled the plug out and tried to get spark but the bike is mostly Alluminum so no spark. Please let me know what else it could be open to anything before I take it in to the Service shop. and it ends up costing more. I want to fix it myself.

Thanks Guys!

Have you checked the kill switch on the right bar?

It being aluminum wont hinder the sparking, its looking for a ground. If its not sparking it sounds as if it may be the cdi box or even a coil.

Also make sure it's not in gear. Not trying to be funny or anything, we have ALL done it at one time or another. I killed my battery one day because of the kill switch. I was MAD until I realized what I had done, then I felt dumb.

When I first got mine I couldnt figure out why I had a S light on when warming it up, I thought it was for a sensor going out.

the "S"light is for the side (kick) stand. if your side stand is down and you are in gear the bike will not start. on my 98 it's right above the neutral light.

Make sure and pull the clutch in too. That will allow you to start it in gear with the kickstand up and may allow you to start if there is a fault in one of the interlocks.
