APE CCT leaking?

Had a set of APE CCT's put on and now I am noticing a small but steady ooze of oil off of the rear CCT. It's comming out the threads themselves [if that makes sense]. The actual CCT and locknut are tight, and there is no leakage around the gasket.

Since this is dripping oil within inches of my rear tire, I am concerned with this, but I am not real sure how to "fix" this without F'ing anything up..

I had the same thing recently. Loosened the nylock while keeping the bolt from turning. Once I had enough space, I slathered a little Hylomar (non-hardening gasket sealer) on the threads and re-tightened the nylock. So far so good.

Later APEs have an o-ring between the locking nut and the cct. But even that doesn't always prevent the leak.

Put the rear cylinder to top dead center (look at the timing marks by pulling off the little round cover on the left side of the engine with a hex wrench and get it to show RT by spinning the rear tire in 6th gear.) , pull off the CCT and wrap the adjuster bolt with teflon tape and reassemble. Irrs195 showed me that mine was leaking, as I didn't even see it. Mine has the o-ring, but it still leaked because the o-ring doesn't seal on the thread that good.

Easier way - Back off the locknut and smear a little RTV on the threads up against the body of the CCT. Tighten locknut. I replaced my o-ring but it still didn't help. This was the only easy way I could find to stop the drip...and it worked!

So before I install mine shortly, which procedure should I follow? Teflon tape or RTV?

Either one should work. For initial install try the teflon. If it doesn't work then the RTV is a good solution without having to remove/reinstall.

A.P.E. recomends using teflon tape, had the same problem with mine.

I didn't put either on my APE tensioner, but mine is the later type, with the O ring. I only have it on the front cyl too, the rear auto tensioner is ok (full of oil)

Just get some gasket material. I wasn't confident in the design of the CCTs without a gasket for metal to metal contact surfaces. The gasket material is real cheap and you just trace the profile of the CCT and then cut it out. Much cleaner than using silicone.
