98 VTR Fork Spring question

Hello all,

I have a 98 VTR with 14,000Kms on it. I am the second owner. I have babied this animal and love it.

I have noticed that the front end bottoms out if I hit a pothole or the curb. The mechanic recommended to change the stock front fork springs with Ohlins spring ($130 CAD + Ohlins fork oil).

What do you think of this change ?

Should I just change the oil and leave the springs as is ?
OR
Go with the change of the springs and the oil ?

Any input will help.

My vote is Racetech, I love mine. Get the springs made for your weight and riding style, and take the forks off to replace the fluid.

i put sonic springs in mine - very good price for a nice straight rate spring.

i think that read 7.5W fork oil works well in the stock valve fork ( i used 7w due to not finding 7.5 )

i made my own measuring device - really simple.

vtr1000 isn't listed on the website but the f3 is the same spring ( i think )

You can use a better spring - straight rate, probably .80 or .85kg/mm depending on your riding style. Use a good 5wt oil - recommend Silkolene RSF Pro. This should work for you.
