Should I Mount My Tires. ? FRT - REAR

A Guy Told Me He Does His Own, And Rarely Have Them Balanced.

What Do You Guys Think ?

 

I do mine myself and never re-balence them and i never have any problems with wearing or vibration. I've got it down to getting both off switched and back on in under an hour. You can make a wheel stand to hold the axle up so you can spin the tire freely, spin it and the heavey spot will land on the bottom every time, put a stick on weight there and spin again untill it stops on a differant spot every time.

 

I think you mean put the weight opposite the heavy spot.

I've been doing my own tires for several years now. Search the net for several how-to's with pics.

Yes correct the opposite side, i wrote that at 6:00 this morning.

 

I will gladly pay the $20 to have Cycle Gear or whoever mount them.

 

Your lucky paying 20.... anywhere around here your pay 50-75 if you didn't buy the tires from them... just spent 120 to get my used tires off one set of rims and put on another. I'll be buying a changing machine before these wear out.

There's a tire changer in my future when we get to the new shop because I hate the damage that's done to the wheels when these other ********* do the work. Yeah CG does have a pretty good price but they always add to the collection of scratches and gouges on the wheel(s). I have five wheels for my Superhawk and have already started work on them. The idea is to have two street sets and one track set. I have three rears and two fronts. One of the rears is a 900rr five-spoke that I'm going to do a special paint job on. Once I get all this done there is no way the monkeys at anybody's shop are touching them!

 

Harbor Freight has a tire changer and I split the cost with a buddy. About 120 I think the total was with the motorcycle adapter. Buy the NOMAR bar and balancer, though. Steve

 

I hesitate talking up the NoMar changer because I have an interest in it. Not a vested interest, mind you, but it IS my brother's company. So take this with a grain of salt....

The NoMar was designed because after using the HF machine for a while the plastic protectors broke and started scratching wheels. Rim protectors made out of garden hoses, cut up plastic bottles, and pieces of rubber are just ghetto in nature (no offense to anyone living in the ghetto ). The replacement parts were difficult to get ahold of and the changer was just clumsy in it's operation. Bead breaking is done at waist level and there is more leverage with the NoMar. All parts are warranted for life of the machine and when used properly the machine cannot scratch any kind of wheel, whether it be polished aluminum, powdercoat, paint, or carbon fiber.

I'm not bashing HF or folks who use them, it's just a difference in quality of the tool. It's like buying a wrench that says "Taiwan" on it or buying a Snap-On wrench. You can see and feel the quality when you hold it in your hand.
