Shortening Cans??

Shortening Cans??
I was just wondering and had a couple ?'s on if there was any specific/optimum length most people go with when shortening your cans? My 98 Hawk has Erion's on it and I like the look of the shorty cans and just wanted to check before I did any cutting.
1. Is there a such thing as too short? Affect performance or such?
2. Any difference besides loudness & looks?
3. Any rejetting or anything needed just from shortening cans?
Thanks

cornandp,
I will try and do that when I do get to them. I am actually gonna do my Erion's that are on the bike now, but I was thinking about trying to do the stockers I got sitting also. Even if I never use them I will see how much trouble and what it involves doing them.
hotbrakes,
yeah I got that thread printed out and it seems pretty straight forward but just wasn't sure if it changed anything along the way.
Might start chopping on the E's tomorrow and see how they turn out.
Thanks Guys!!

The stockers would obviously need to be welded back together...unless you cut them where I did.
The baffle I used is similar to the far one in this pic, but the small tube is larger and longer. It actually stopped it up pretty well and I've had to drill some relief holes to let more exhaust flow. Had the local machine shop weld it in along with a slash tip for $20. I cut the cans where they attach to the slightly larger pipe in the system.

yeah I knew the stockers would have to be welded. That won't be a problem, I just wanted to shorten/ lighten them and replace the plumbing inside with a more aftermarket type design and packing. I looked at the thread and shortening aftermarket cans looks like a pretty easy straight forward job. For you all. Also does it seem trends, big mufflers, small (gp) mufflers kinda flip flop every once in a while

Well there done!! Now just got to get it out and see if any re-jetting is needed or any difference in performance. See thread:
