Holes in exhaust cans?

I was feeling for exhaust leaks the other day and noticed air coming from under the front of the exhaust cans. I look under and see a little hole. I check the other side and it had one too. Are these holes supposed to be there for some reason?

I believe that hole is there just to allow water to drain out and not rust the inside of the muffler. I didn't think any exhaust came out of there, though I've never considered checking it. Come to think of it, it seemed like there was some carbon deposits in that area on my pipes. The stock ones went bye-bye many years ago so I'm trying to dig into my memory...which isn't what it used to be.

Did you not like the answer I gave you? Just kidding, I'm sure you want to get as many opinions as possible.

You may be right I was just wondering if they had been punched all the way through or something since I can feel exhaust air from them. Since you couldnt quite remember I was just wondering if anyone else might know any different.

Jamie is right. It's a drain for condensation as water is a byproduct of combustion. That's why alot of exhausts rot from the inside out. It's best if the hole is at the lowest point on the system but that's difficult to do on most designs.
