Rejetting Question

I rejetted my bike with the 180# and 182# and it runs really well. My question is would I gain anything by increasing the size of the jets to 182#-185# or 185#-188#, or would the consumption of fuel outstrip any performance gains?

i bought my bike with the jet kit ( factory pro ) installed. i was suprised when i pulled the carbs apart, it was tuned really well, a/f screws 2 turns out with the stock 45 pilots and had the stock main jets 175,178 with the clip on the 4th position from the top. even on the track it pulled hard all the way up the rpm range. ( 2 brothers high mount pipes / K&N filter )

i've read on this forum that stock the mains are a little rich so now i'm a bit confused why everybody seems to be running such big jets ?

When I lived in Norfolk (not much different from where you are) I was running 185/182 and it ran great! I would suggest them. It's only $5 for one jet, right?....and about an hour of your time.

trinc, have you considered that it might pull even harder with a slightly richer main? Being at sea level and with the colder, denser air up there it might benefit you.

Hawk are you suggesting a 185 in the front and 182 in the rear, or where you answering trinc?

I have to break into the bike anyway so changing the jets won't be a problem.

The larger jet is always in the rear.....

maybe, but i'm taking it back to stock so i'm staying with the 175/178 and shiming the stock needle an added .020"

i'd hate see how bad the fuel usage would be going larger ( i'm already running -1/+2 and have a bad habit of running close to the red

maybe i'll buy a 180 and try 178/180 when i put the pipes back on for the track.

as luck has it EDR performance ( our local race shop ) just hired a guy from HRC honda. he worked for American Honda’s road racing team & cycle tune in LA - i went down last week to get the factory pro air fuel mixture bit ( eric was nice enough to give me one ) and eric said go check out chris's bike. it's a mint 99 superhawk ! we talked briefly about tuning mine as he said he has a lot of dyno time on his hawk. should be a good resource.

No, I had a separate reply for trinc. Sorry...185r/182f. Better?

Why are you fitting stock needles if you have the bike running well?

I am running 180/185 mains, 50 pilots and 4th clip dynojet needles.

Dropping down to stock mains(175,178 keihin jets) I lost hp, Going to 185/190 the bike ran well cold but when it warmed up I had very rich mixtures on the open road.

Id leave it as is with mains. More to be gained with needle position. Your mains should be OK.

Just my 2 cents worth
