RC51 or GSXR 6pots/??

RC51 or GSXR 6pots/??
I'm getting used to my SH and going faster and faster. Not so much high speed but mountain stuff...45 to 90 mph.
Just dialing in a new Wilbers shock, about to install RT springs and valves, a bit of lift on top of the shock, and various other non handling related mods.
I just got a great deal on both RC51 calipers and MC...AND...GSXR6pot calipers and master. If you hotrodders had a choice, which setup would you run?
All other things equal...when they all get here I'll use the lightest calipers. The 6pot'ers should have nice wide/long pads no?

Although unsprung weight is important, I think stopping power is more critical on the street.
I'd suggest you take the effort to try both on the bike and make your decision based on power/feel and not on a weight scale or other folks preferences. Also, use a nice sticky front tire and comparable pads when doing the tests.

SuperB...I guess you're right. Anyone with one set will probably not have tried the other. It'd be good data for the forum for sure.
996, you're on....I'll keep you posted. I'll have to check pads on each when they arrive and maybe buy two new sets of EBC hh pads to test...losing set will come with those new pads installed.

I have the gsxr 6 pot calipers with the cbr954 mc works well no mods to do brake calipers fit on to forks no probs. pull up very well the bike wrecker in australia seem to have it all, no probs to get your hands on must be a lot of suzuki smashed up down here.

Just so you boys know....
CBR 600 RR calipers off a 2003 I believe are a match to the RC calipers (part numbers are the same according to Ron Ayers.. but double check as my memory may be a bit foggy on the year) I picked up a set for my RC front end a few months ago.... This gives you guys another bike to look at to find a set if needed... (I am using the RC M/C with them.)

Just a quick note....received the RC51 calipers yesterday and did a careful side by side. Pads are the same size. RC pistons are obviously larger in diameter. Calipers are same overall size. I'll stickem on there this weekend along with the RC master and see what's up.

I was going to grind the "little bit" off of the fork leg's mounting lug. Is the general consensus to grind from the caliper? It's not much material either way......Saturday gets the caliper and MC swap and new tires put on. My 208s have lots of tread left but I have a RR school day coming in two weeks and they require almost new tires and my Pilots are sitting there waiting to be broken in. Anyone want a cheap pair of 208s?

I ended up going with the RC51 calipers and MC. Much better feel and one finger control unless I'm hard on it.
The area needed to gring for fit on the RC calipers is right at the back of the bucket casting of the caliper. I know they don't make these any thicker than they have to so I just touched it there and took the bulk off of the lower fork mount. Nothing is visible....and I wouldn't care if it was. This bike is my rider....my '66 BSA is my pretty one.
BTW...new Power Pilots....yummy. Just getting used to them. They "fall in" much easier than the 208s.
