Let's talk CAMS!
I have an opportunity to purchase a set of new Stage III Moriwaki cams for a pretty good price. I've read a lot on the forum about stage I cams, but not stage III. Anyone know what differences there are in:
- Power
- Installation procedure
- Other required pieces/parts for the install
TIA.

Here's what I think I know:
You'll need:
1) more RPM to use the powerband. This includes rods, lightened crank, valve gear (springs, retainers), race ECU.
2) Head modifications for the cam lobes to clear.
3) More compression
4)Bigger exhaust header.
5) Bigger ports
Without more RPM, you'll make less power than you have now. And you'll lose lots of midrange. They are race-only cams.

It sounds like a lot of time and money to make the bike not do what your 1000RR does right out of the box!
If you do everything right, you can get 140 HP out of an RC51 engine with stock cams.
The VTR is great at doing what it does already. A stage 1 engine is a fun project and works really well. I wouldn't go beyond that.
My $.02

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - more mods than I was planning on ever doing. She has enough power for me on the street and already handles like a dream. I'm not sure if I'm willing to make the tradeoffs...and shell out the dough for another project.
If someone wants to buy them for $295 plus shipping (times two) then I'll be happy to pass on the deal to someone if they want them. It's an ebay second chance offer (legitimate) and I have about another day before it expires so let me know if you want 'em.

Thats funny Greg....seems I was bidding against you! LOL I got the second chance offer too till I looked into all the mods required...I passed on it..
Yup with the mods on my vtr all done now I am totally happy as is...Might do a little port clean and perhaps a few other things this winter..perhaps stage 1 cams pistons ect this winter...What I did all works pretty darn good as a package..Jetting is pretty close to spot on and its a very ridable and fun machine..My R1 looks lonely and abandoned right now..lol
