Gas milage OK no need for larger tank

I always toped off the tank after the low fuel light came on and only put about 2.8 gals. in till full. Got around 110 mi before the light came on.

I estimated I was getting around 35 mpg. so I shoud be able to go further. today I rode till I had 156 mi on the last tank and filled it with 4 gals. That came to 39 mpg. Not bad!

Newbie here. If you rode 100% highway (70-75MPH) what do you think that you would get?

That's pretty good. I used get 90-100 miles before the RLOD comes on. Putting in 2.95 gallons leaves me at 30mpg.

MiG slip-ons, no jetting, and 235lbs (probably 250 with gear).

Gas Miles

Stock, I got about 29-32 mpg. Now, I have slip on Scorpions, Stage 1 Dyno Jet, K&N Air Filter. Average mpg was around 28-30. I took a trip to Michigan last year riding straight lines for miles on end at about 75-80 mph, I got 46 MPG!! Now that I have adjusted my valves and cleaned them off really well, I'm getting about 30-32.

I ran out at 125 miles once RLOD at ~90, and have gone to 120 without a RLOD too. It depends on how hard you are pushing it.

RLOD & adjustment

Red Light Of Death (actually more orange colored)

U can adjust sensor level in tank by bending down the heavy wire "arm" that the wire runs along to sensor "pod" at the wires end; ie, lowering height of sensor so it comes on when there is less gas in tank. I set mine for 15 ~ 20 miles from starving or 3.8 gallons used. I have checked and you never can get the full 4.2 gallons to feed, more like 4.0 available. With 185/182 mains, .040" shimmed OEM needles & stock pilots & filter, taking it easy steady-state I can run 36 mpg; low is 29.

Running my "big" 5.2 gallon tank (self-fabed from stock), I have a safe range of about 175 miles.

when I first got my SH I was running about 2500-3000 RPMS, getting about 30 mpg.

I went out for a ride one day, ran pretty hard (compared to usual riding) usually around 6000-7500 RPMS and got 33 MPG.

Now I usually run her at 4000 around town and get pretty close to 31 all around.

Funny how running her hard and fast all day nets you better gas mileage plus it was more fun wasting gas that way lol
