Just to clarify, if you go to the RT site and do a valving search it comes up US1 oil. That is for their newer two port valves (which I don't like - but that's another conversation altogether). The US2 is what they use for the 1st generation valves.

I actually printed up the digital valving search from RT the other night.
It shows for type 1 valves:
-.85 springs
-US1 fork oil,
-140mm air gap
-Rebound adjuster out 2 turns
-Fork spring preload at 15mm, and set length at 403mm
...Thats at 160lbs

I'm looking at mine now, printed out 8/14/07:

- .89kg/mm spring (I went stiffer)
- US2 oil
- FMGV S2040 Type 1 Valve
- 155mm air gap
- C35 stack

I work in the bike industry and I was told by Race Tech back in 1999 thereabouts that they originally specified US-2 (10w) because, and only because, Honda specifies 10w (SS-8) in their factory specs and they didn't want customers to get confused if they (Race Tech) specified a different oil weight than Honda. They actually prefer and wanted to use US-1 (5w) on the VTR forks and that is what they set up for me (including, as noted in a previous post, pre-loading my Type1 GV shim stack) when I did my forks back then.

You can use US-1 (5w) for both Type 1 original and the 2nd-generation G2-R (pre-loaded) Gold Valves; just check with Race Tech regarding the proper shim stack to use with 5w on the Type 1's.

Compression bleed hole may be different as well, so ask about that too.

So they preloaded your shimstack, eh? How's that feel on the hard hits? Earlier post, BTW, was referring to spring preload, not stack preload.

Anyway,
Got the front done 2 weekends ago (new RT springs, RT compression valves, and re-shimmed rebound valves ..drove out to Jamies (thanks Jamie). Unbelievable difference...I can't wait to have enough money for the rear.
Now, all I would like is a fork brace...anyone, anyone?
