Delkevic Exhaust
Delkevic Exhaust
Need to replace my factory mufflers and one of the only ones I still find as available are the Delkevic. I am thinking of going with the 9" SS Oval. Does anyone have any experience with this brand on VTRs or have a different recommendation. I am in the US so that kind of limits the options. The noise part is not a factor for me.
I would stay away from the 9". IIRC they are very loud and not in a good way. Also the carbon fiber is a poor choice, as they don't hold up very well. That said the quality for the price is good enough. YMMV. Considering there is almost nothing available new anymore, your choices are very limited
So I've installed the brand on other bikes but not a VTR. I always felt they were very well made for the money. Carbon pipes on big twins do require a little more attention to make them last. If you are comfortable repacking them, go for it. If that is something you never want to mess with I'd say steer clear.
I used to have a powersports shop, and I would see quite a few of the Delkavic exhaust come through on customers bikes. They are very nice quality for the price.
They have pretty good customer service here in the US too.
However as was mentioned you don't want any exhaust muffler less than 12" on the Superhawk. It becomes insanely obnoxiously loud (think Hatley Davidson with straight ratty drag pipes)
Larger the cans the better.
From what I know of 30 years of wrenching on bikes, stay away from carbon fiber unless you're OK with repacking them a lot.
Big vtwins build huge amounts of exhaust heat and energy so the packing dosent last very long. The carbon fiber just dosent hold up to the heat and vibration once the silencing material is gone.
With litre class vtwins, regardless of brand the more exhaust volume you have the deeper the tone and better sound quality you have.
I tried smaller and shorter exhaust and cans both on mine trying to modernize the looks. While it increased power just a little, it made it unbearable to ride even with ear plugs and ever time I rode it I had some Karen calling the cops on me.
Hope this info helps.

I had a set of the first gen D&ds, (I was a dealer for them back when our bikes first came out) good gawd were they loud!
Wondering if maybe they switched packing on the later ones.
Be cool to find some their one offs they made at the time.
2/1, individual megaphone systems were in catalogs but never sold them.
I was pleasantly surprised awhile back when I tried out a pair of Delkevics. I thought they were very nice quality and looked great. Probably about the best bang for your buck for something brand new that's still available these days. I'd go with the bit longer can but that's personal preference.
And by the way any standard/low mount cans can easily be rotated to have a higher exit (RC51 style) with high mount brackets (or just make your own). If the midpipes have the footpeg tabs just cut them off.
