air/fuel mix meter

what about a meter? does anyone here have experience with these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLACK...spagenameZWDVW

where would the bung be welded into the exhaust? at the cross over point in the system?

i'm gonna read more on these meters.

Hmmmm.........

If you get a dyno tune, they will have a gas analyser anyway. If you have EFI, wide band oxygen sensors will allow you to tune your engine by closed loop of the ECU.

What are you going to do with this on a bike with carbs?

I will be getting a innovate LC-1 very soon they run 229 $ same setup than this, you get WB probe, controller and a digital gauge, they offer an analog one but way more expensive.

On the bike on a carbed bike it's no real point of it... On a dyno though it's usefull on a carb bike...

You can even do a DIY dyno with one...

I would get 3 bungs and 2 bung plugs, one to tune the front carb, one to tune the rear carb, then one to run the bike in the collector.

I don't want to get into details yet, but I'll eventually spit it out and make a build thread.
For now I'm gathering parts...oh and money

i'd like to know what my ratio is more for reliability than performance. if it's way lean or way rich i could deal with it. if it's close to the middle i'll have peace of mind.

gboezio - what are you up to???!!!!!

I'm running an a/f gauge on my bike. It's been on there for several years and has been a big help with the tuning. You don't know what you don't know, it's interesting how the jetting can be off and you'd never know it by just riding the bike. It's especially helpful during transitions (on-off the throttle) and also to see if one piece of the puzzle (like needle setting or main jet) is off. You can be one size off on the main and not be able to tell - but the gauge will give you an indication.

I welded the bung to the header right after the merge of the two downpipes. I can grab some pictures if you like. I'm running a narrow band old school gauge, in case you were wondering.

One thing to keep in mind: gauges like these are meant for cars which are in 'the shade'. My gauge is totally useless during the day as it's not bright enough to be seen. At night it's perfect. I wouldn't be surprised if the one in the eBay auction is like that too.

jamie, nice info. with stock jetting and slip ons do you think it will show lean all the time?

It's no big secret, I'm just waiting for things to be in gear before talking about it, this project have been shut down twice and I know that it makes very little sense, but I'm insane anyway, I could build a hot rodded lawnmower for the hell of it so...

Low pressure turbocharged, fuel injected Hawk, pretty basic, nothing fancy, very small turbo for instant response, say about 130 to 150 RWHP no more or the throttle control become touchy, need to be fully spooled by 4000 rpm, be driveable, make better fuel mileage than the hawk did originally, still light to go around the track.
I'll see how it drives and maybe getting a second engine to build next winter to raise the pressure a tad.
Will start a thread soon when I have received my stainless and Al bends and get the thing tack welded, should order in a few weeks, then the ECU and WB O2 are the only parts missing

For the LC-1 WB O2 sensor, I was to order it from DIY autotune

Do a google search for JAW.

It is a do it yourself wide band analyzer kit.

The JAW was an awesome project, I just don't seem to find any retailers anymore
Edit : found the link
http://14point7.com/Widebands/JAW_1_041/JAW_1_041.htm

It's getting expensive, 55 bucks you get the PC board and the display, you need to buy the parts list and the Bosch sensor and build it yourself. It got to be well into the hundred
