Trimming Rear Fender...Need Help/Advice

Just picked up a sweeeet 1999 Shawk but has the stock rear fender.....way too long, way too big and way too ugly. Want to keep stock signal lights but move license plate (don't think I need the license plate light either???? Anyway, for those who have done this mod...I'd appreciate help in making sure it looks good and that I get a nice smooth cut when I shorten the fender. Thanks again for everyone's help and input.
