Rear Seat Gap:

Rear Seat Gap:
Hi all, second post here.
Loving my new (to me) red 98 SuperHawk and am starting to work on it a bit.
Taking care of some cosmetic stuff, since the previous owner had gone through the whole thing front to back in the last year and there's not much to be done that would improve the handling or engine....
My seat has a larger than expected gap beneath the rear section of the seat.
I am looking for a red or black rear seat cowl but wanted to see if this gap is normal and if not, what part/gasket am I looking for to close the gap.
Thanks for the input.

It appears as though the PO may have recovered the seat and didn't quite get the edge foam back correctly. They all have a bit of a gap, but much more even. Search some pictures and you'll see how the OEM fitting is.

I also think it looks like a possible re-cover as the grab strap is missing. The material does look similar to the stock vinyl seat cover though. I also see (without x-ray vision) scuff marks from a rear seat cowl.

I have betrayed one of my super powers.
Look at the notch to which the left arrow points. I see red (people).
However, looking closer and further back, I also see what appears to be the same striations in the mold similar to a stock pan. Perhaps it is half and half held together by a stock appearing recover. That makes sense.
I agree with you and CaryDG on all counts.

Hey, I have this same gap. I think it's a mod to rear fairing that has the under seat wheel cover.
I can see day light under the seat when I'm walking to my bike. It bugs me and I feel like the seat isn't on 100%. It is on correct, it's just annoying.

Is it fully "seated" and locked in place? Can you pull it off without using the ignition key to unlock it? (Assuming you still have a seat lock with whatever mod(s) you have to your rear-end.) If you can, it's not on 100%.
