LED Lights

I was in the parts store buying another silverstar(Bad r/r took out the 1st one) and I noticed they had relatively affordable led accessory lights. Little strips and fx that sort of thing. How have you guys tapped into your powersupply to run these, and isnt it true that they do not draw very many amps so it should not strain the system too much? right or wrong? Hs anyone put any of the ground fx on your hawk? Also I saw the #194 led bulbs and I wonder if putting one of those in the little running light works out ok?

194 in the 3rd "eye" as i like to call it is fine.

As for the ground fx LEDs, ues they draw less power than a conventional incandecent or halogen bulb. However since you will be ADDING lights/LEDs you'll be adding more to the voltage system, however little that amount would be. Always run a in-line fuse for any accesory as well.

While at the parts store check out the LED trailer unit if you went to Advanced Auto. Check out my How-To thread in the Knowledge forum

I love LEDs, adding them in place of your stock bulbs pose many advantages. You gotta pay attention to how bright they are, sometimes LED replacements are dimmer than the stock incan bulbs.

This is an 8 led unit that I bought at Pep Boys. It comes with connectors so you dont have to hard wire it in. Ill take another pic. tonight.

I think I may try the WLED-WHP LED http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/bulb_specs.htm . It is not the white you see on most white LEDs where its almost a blue/white color. I prefer a cleaner warm/pure white. There are $4.95/ea but much better than any of the stuff you'd find at local stores.

I was thinking of going with a red 194 to match the bike color, but then i thought "is it legal to have a red light in the front?" and is it safe?

Hak,

I've tried those bulbs, the current draw on them is in the upper range, hence a brighter LED. I installed two of those on a friend's evolution license plate lights, and they light up quite nicely. It would be a good choice for the front running light. I ordered a WLEDx5 in amber for my running light, should work well.
The only thing is, it's rated at 4500k which is a neutral white, which can appear slightly slightly blue if you look at it long enough. If you want warm warm white, go with the WHP6LED in warm white. They're rated at 3300k, which in LED's is the white you're looking for. At first I was confused with LED kelvin ratings, since I compared it to HID ratings, but 3000k HID and 3000k LED aren't the same. LED's k ratings are usually not as warm as their HID counterparts.

Yeah I was wondring how the kelvin rating was compared to HID were used to. Thanks for the heads up Anto. I'll probably end up buying a few different kinds from him and see which one I like most.

At $4.95, that's not a bad idea to order a few and find the one you like. Looks like I'll be doing another Haknslash project on my bike. I'm in love with your LED brake light conversion.

Hah, glad you liked the project Erik. It's a cheap, efficient, and clean mod for the VTR . Wait until you see my headlight project start

Yeah not a bad idea to order a few different 194's. I'm just not a big fan of the blue-ish white LEDs and prefer the warmer ones you now see being used on Lexus' license plate lights. A little easier/cleaner on the eyes and matches better IMO.

I'm not entirely sure which direction I want to go with the lights. I might use one G35 projector along with the stock reflector housing or I might remove the stock reflector housing completely and do two G35 projectors which would equal dual low beams and dual high beams since its a bixenon HID projector. A similar project was done by Anto, who I know off hidplanet before I knew he was on here LOL. Small word but here is his thread along with a few inputs of my own future project https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=10992

I wished I could run my LS430s that I have retrofitted into my Highlander but 1) they are single xenon only and 2) would be a tight fit.

LS430s on my Highlander...

haha

Yeah I'm just not sure even how two would look in there without the stock reflector and with like two E46 shrouds trimmed together. would probably look a little on the crazy side LOL. I want a clean look. i'll just have to play around whenever I can finally get a replacement headlight housing for not too much $$$.
