Rising Hawk

I bought this bike last fall thinking about making it into a supermoto. It was a front end crash. I had CR250 forks on there but I didn't want to go that route since I already have a couple of bikes with that conversion. So I went with stock forks. So far, this is where it's at.

A little streetfighter, a little supermoto. What do you think?

Yeah, I like that bend.

If you had the new parts painted to match, it would look almost factory. What are you going to do about the fairing stay? And whatzup with that bungee cord?

Did you do the CR fork conversions you mentioned to the XVR70 and the BMW?

Damn, you have eagle eyes. That bungee cord is to hold up the right radiator that was damaged in the crash. I have another one that I haven't swapped out yet. I'm surprised no one mentioned the missing throttle grip.

Yep, CR fork conversions on the Africa Twin and GS.

No more bungee cord and I installed the grip. And the headlight is hooked up. I just have to change the rear tire but it's snowing... again.

Update

Here are some pics of the bike for this month.

I just need to paint the tank. Last month I loaded the bike up in the back of my son's truck and went back with him to upstate NY. I visited a friend in Brooklyn and rode back to CO with practically no wind protection. I have some now.

Big change, huh?

Looks great! On your Africa Twin, did you rework the CR250 forks for the extra weight? Where did you find did twin anyway? I have loved that style of bike since I had my old NX.

Yep, the forks were reworked with stiffer springs and revalved. I dropped them off at the local suspension guru and he did it all. The rest is aftermarket stuff for CR's.

I found this bike in craigslist as a parts bike. The PO was selling it because the engine "seized" up. I bought it with the idea of stuffing a VTR motor in it. But when I got it and started diagnosing the situation, I found one of the nuts securing the valvetrain had fallen down and lodged itself in the camchain and sprocket. I reversed the engine and pulled out the nut. The rest is history.

I had another AT that I picked up from a frustrated guy trying to register it the "legal" way in California. Can you say major red tape? I registered it here in less than 45 minutes. I sold that bike last August.

Yes, I did buy lottery tickets and no I didn't win. I suppose I won in a way with owning two AT's at once. I could have picked up a third but didn't want to push my luck and didn't want to come across as an AT hog.

Road trip to Laguna Seca, we stopped by the Morro Rock for lunch before heading up Hwy 1.

At the races, a wide variety of bikes were seen.

Good trip.

Nice pics! You should do a RC swap so that you have the inverted gold/bronze forks! It would really look like one of the more modern naked bikes! SuperDuke, Tuono etc... But hey who cares it is a rider and that is what counts the most! I wish I knew that you were at the GP I was camping up at turn 10 and had my hawk with me!

We ended up in my usual turn two perch. Sorry we didn't get to meet. So did you wait until 6:00 PM before filing out like the announcer said a gazillion times?

We stay until later in the evening anyway and go to monterey and have dinner. Then we come back to the track and stay overnight and leave Monday morning for a ride up the coast or something along those lines.

I have that exact same headlight and windscreen setup on my nekkid/café racer Transalp. It actually does a good job at keeping the wind where I like it... I don't really ride it above 75 though (if I had a speedo I could give you and actual number, but )

Looks good. I wish Honda would make a naked Super Hawk to compete with the monster line.

could you detail the parts for the headlight and fairing change? What about speedo. What did you do there? Also, were you able to get dual rotors ont he CR250 forks? If no, how would the stopping power be with only one side? Do you know if there are any taller 41mm forks which could be swapped out to give the Hawk a more dual pupose riding position?
