New to the SH this summer...

And LOVING it! I've rode dirt and a little street before on a Suzuki GS400, but there is just nothing that compares to the SH. I absolutely LOVE the torque! Effortless passing in 6th gear, even with my large bum on it.

I picked up "Bridgette" because my pickup was killing me on gas back in June. Sat on the hawk and it just fit. I'm 6'7" and 270. Not a little guy by any means =P But I bought it right then and there. Strange deal too - it was a "brand new '03" and had 4, yes you read that right, 4 miles on it. It was also only 7k! So I got the good financing deal, warranty, and it's the only new vehicle I've ever bought.

Anyway, she's bone stock (still) because I'm actually trying to save money on my commuting. All the while enjoying the HELL out of 'er! The rumble rules, downshifting in the mountains just makes me grin like all hell. My chicken strips are down to about 1" either side, I'm workin' on it! Also, I almost have 4k, but I really only count the ones where I get up in the twisties.

The photos are of the day I got her, mountain rides, hauling a 50lb bag of dogfood home (I R Redneck LOL), and some other great shots I've got. Too much fun to even handle. Can't wait to get a few little things done and just rack up the miles!

And even more glad to have found such a great community where I can research all those mods I wanna do and enjoy all of your stories!

~Jon

nice man! congrats and welcome. I bought my hawk for the same reason...the gas mileage in my pickup was killing me (at least thats how i rationalized my SH purchase)

my recommendation would be to scratch up a few bucks and throw some aftermarket cans on that beast...nothing beats listening to all 996 cc's of v-twin glory blasting out some more free flowing pipes.

keep putting those miles on!

nice ride and welcome to the SH forum.
Your next to my favorite (close to town) twisties. There is nothing better than hitting 74 west out of Morrison thru Evergreen and then taking 103 over the top and back down into Idaho Springs. A small assortment of us complete that loop on friday lunches just to clear the cob webs. Flat landers will never understand.

All of those mountain shots of mine were taken along that stretch between Evergreen and Idaho Springs =) It's one of my favorites so far too. I don't think I could get away for a lunch ride though =/

And the dog food is the least of which I've had on the back of that bike. I'm an IT guy for a retail chain, and I can be seen at least weekly with either a computer/printer/fax/monitor on the back of that bike blasting between corporate and the stores LOL.

Amazingly, Dells don't seem to mind the ride. And I'm actually doing okay with mileage reimbursement now! (I was losing money before with the truck)

Hopefully I'll see some of you forum guys out there somewhere. Ride on!

macd218 is an unknown quantity at this point
The first upgrade you should do when you get the $$$ is suspension. Like you said you are not a small guy and the suspension is soft stock. Great bike, I got my 2003 left over in 2005.

Welcome fellow big guy. It seems that some of the guys that post on here are allergic to food weighing in at whopping 145-165lbs... Well Im glad to say the SH does a fine job of hauling my 300+ 6'3" gorilla frame around. Stiffening up the front forks is a must do.. Have fun.

Even at my 200 to 205 the front needs to have better springs and revalving... Its on my list of things to do
