Brother's old Superchicken

Finally... It's my turn... A few weeks ago, my twin brother asked if I wanted his old Superhawk.. Couldn't say yes fast enough...... It's a 98. Aside from manual cam chain adjusters, and a 1 piece fiberglass front end, it is stock..... for now... First thing was to do something about that paint.... Grabbed a few cans of Cherry Red and some clear...

Here she is, right after being unloaded from the truck

4 coats of red, and 6 coats of clear... Just finishing wet sanding

After final buff

Everything but the tank rattlecan red...

Next, I needed to do something about those old cracking tires.... From there it just snowballed... I had a CBR900rr rear wheel from an old project that never happened (f3 front and frar suspension on an '81 cb900f) Figured I would slap that on with the new tire, some bearings, and a chain. Then the plan was to find an F3 front, and be done... Then I found an LSL upper triple in the classifieds here and got all excited... Turns out it was for 929/954/RC forks, so I said Screw it, and started my fork swap from the top down... Picked up a sp1 wheel, and some 954 forks to go with it... Still waiting for the spacer sand calipers to show up.... Decided I could pick up a few HP with some fake Carbon fiber on the top...

RC51 front and CBR900rr rear

CBR954rr front end

LSL top triple from the classifieds here

Picked up a few HP with the fake carbon...

Decided I needed a few extra HP on this too...

Just about everything All ***** makes

Came with a one piece fiberglass front fairing. I am planing to cut it, lean the windscreen area up a bit, then make a new taller screen out of an st1100 piece... Little more clearence for the bar conversion, little more height, and a bit of a duck bill.. I am 6'5" and the stock setup does nothing. Before I cut anything, I am going to make a 3 piece mold in case I decide to do something silly later... Full carbon bodywork?? It came with a support bracket that mounts the headlight to the gague stalk, so, with the addition of a few holes for some turn signals, it makes it easy to keep riding while I am working on it...

Aluminum bracket holding on the headlight

Fiberglass goodness...

And now a word from our sponsor.... I have gone through many cans of this stuff.... And quite a few Dr. Peppers...

Tomorrow I am pulling of the rear swing to start adding a CBR900rr brace.... Then I can move on to figuring out how to set up the XL1000v Varadero fuel injection I just got from Ebay UK....

The wheel came from Ebay. I got throttle bodies from the xl1000v because they are on the same motor, and bolt right up.. Even get to use the stock airbox with no modificatiins. I am going to graft the bottom of a vfr800 trank to the stock tank to get a fuel pump. If I do it right, I can add about 1/2gallon in the process. I can either use an rc51 computer, or possibly a Minisquirt... Mounting sensors on the motor should be fairly easy(ish) since I can get factory parts to do it. I haven't gone deep enough yet to figure out what else I will need to change. As soon as I do a little more research, and actually get parts in my hand, I will start a thread in the performance section...

Head side will drop right into the vtr boots, and the airbox side has same bolt pattern, and even the carb gasket..

Yes sir, that is the axe that Washington cut down the Cherry Tree with. It's only had 27 new handles and 18 new heads...

Update: Got the wheels painted up real nice(from 10ft) 954 front end swap done... As soon as my new sp2 swingarm (thanks Captainchaos) shows up, I will tear it apart and replace the cbr fork legs with sp1 parts, and add the super purdy swinger to the back. Got a fancy shock on the way so my rear can be as sorted as the front... When that's done, I will turn to exhaust... Might get some high pipes( looking at a used set of Staintunes) Or go crazy and do a cbr600rr tail swap with a Jardine under tail exhaust.. Yes.... I know I "will loose some on the top end" if I go single exhaust.... But who the F&%# cares... I don't even know where the top end is?? I, like most people, live in the middle...

I would assume the fake carbon fiber gains and the single exhaust losses would cancel out.

True.... At least I will still have the extra hp from the gold wheels... Only reason I am concidering the under tail is cuz I got one of these... Might just try and fit it using the stock tail..

Just wanted to share some pictures of the highly modified swingarm. These pics were sent to me by captainchaos. Fedex should be dropping it off next week sometime...

It was shortened to match stock swingarm length, and the stock VTR pivots welded in... Supposed to be a bolt in....

Also has a big *** notch plate welded in for shock clearance... I think I might use a Wilbers shock... Yumm...

And it got polished ...... and polished...... Should look good with the polished lips on the SP1 wheels... I will have to buy stock in Semichrome....

If the captain said it's bolt-in, it's bolt-in.

I am waiting to do the swingarm till I can put new bearings in it. It looks great. The shock linkage needs some refinement, but appears to function well....

There was a sweet Fox Twin Clicker on ebay cheap, but someone beat me to it.... Instead, I found this one from an early Ninja 600.. Aside from the lower mount, and probably spring rate, it is the same as the Superhawk one.

I also sent off for some ends.. Both are 35mm wide with the right hole... I will try both... I am leaning towards the first one... As a big guy. (6'5" 300lbs) I appreciate it's bulkyness....

Then, just for the hell of it, I grabbed a preload adjuster... should fit....

As soon as it all gets here, I can start to figure out my spring...
