Dutch streetfighter build
Hi guys,
After riding around on my black VTR for a few years now,
I have started to work on my vtr streetfighter past summer.
This is my normal streetbike;
See here more images
VTR Of The Month - August 2010 - WINNER: Revelation! - SuperHawk Forum
It has been a long cherised wish; to build my own streetfighter.
Anyway I came across a special VTR, an ex race bike with some nice extra's.
It used to compete in "battle of the twins".
Extra's oa;
- Magnesium wheels
- WP front front forks
- WP rear shock
- Brembo brakes + discs
- Highmount exhausts
- Steering damper
- Weight reductions
- and more...
This is the way I bought it;
It was running poorly at that time, but I was going to take it apart anyway.
The engine was said to have 130 hp; cams, ported etc. So the engine I have sent to Roger for an overhaul, but it wasnt as tuned up as the seller made me believe.. and the gearbox was completely fucked. So bitterly dissappointed I got yet another (stock) engine. That was the cheaper solution.
A real pitty never the less.
Now the main ingredients for the build:
- Aprilia Tuono 2007 rear
- 19L tank (customized)
- Triumph speedtriple headlights
- Rear radiator mod
- Yoshimura tri oval exhausts
- CBR rear brace mod
- SP1 dash
- Lightened flywheel
- Carb kit, stacks
- Carbon clutch plates
- Manual CCTs
There's loads an loads more mods of course...
Dissasembly & start of build
I will continue in next post... dont want to risk to make mistake and lose this bit!

Since pictures say more than thousand words, I'll just keep posting pics.
This is somewhat chronological order
Tried the exhausts on the bike.
Have put them away for now, to keep them in this mint condition.
Link pipe will have to be made custom, going for this look
Firstly I was leaning twrds a single sided swingarm,
but then I would have to swap back to a stock rearwheel.
I decided to keep the magnesium wheels as a set.
So I had to do something with the original swingarm...
Bought a 900rr swing (cheap of fleebay), cut off the brace and had it welded onto mine.
Will be fitted with real carbon hugger
Subframe welded
Have bought a radiator from crashrat and it seems to fit.
Even more stuff has to go under the seatcover... tight!
But it all fits under the cover
Wiring, relocation and re wiring
Progress
Bought a SP1 dash
Still havent gotten it to work completely.
Does anyone have a 100% working one on his bike and is willing to share the right combo's?
Seen a topic about it, but it doesnt clarify everything.... help please?
Tank is modified a bit now; had those gaps filled and dent repaired.
These 19L are getting hard to find in good condition...
And this is where I am now.
Got my pyramid belly pan in this week.
Will have to finish building it now first, my "short" list:
- Complete the wiring,
- Relocate ignition key
- make coolant pipes from right front to left rear.
- Fix the dashboard
- Fit headlights
- Build up engine with the mods,
- Fix the carbs etc etc.
- Dyno dyno dyno
When I have it running properly,
will take it apart again for painting/coating.
That is all for now, if you have any thoughts... let me know!

The other one also has more mods than I can remember.
Where abouts in the Netherlands are you moving to?
Is your bike coming along?
Getting a Dutch plate shouldn't be a problem... can help you with that if needed.

I absolutely love the look of this one, with the slim cans:
But I bought these yoshimura cans, so is going to be a bit different
So far everything just seems to fall into place
For example the subframe; the 2 lower legs fit "as is".
Had to cut back the top 2, no problem there.
Lined them up, up to the angle that the saddle touched the tank.
Whataya know... it is lining up perfectly:

That is just about the furthest you can be away from me in holland
On ebay they do not show up very often,
I consider myself lucky getting one for the price I paid.
They can still be ordered NEW from Pyramid plastics... see here..
But they dont come cheap!

This evening made the coolant lines..
My parents neighbour helped me out with it.
He is a professional and makes it look so easy.
Tubes are squeezed in just right and line up perfectly!
Parrallel under subframe to connect to the rad
Return tube will be a inside the subframe
This steel version is the mockup, he will make them again in copper.
Will have the final version powdercoated black, same as subframe.
Trust it will be hardly noticeable when finished.

Yes! Didn't spend as much time on the bike as I would have liked.
Busy with work, going out too much and other stuff...
Maybe I will get some stuff done on saturday again.
I have been struggling to get past the wiring. Its just no fun!
Aspecially the additional wiring for the fans was an obstacle.
Need to wire 3 relais to switch on/off and from serial to parallel....
Sent it to someone who will fix it for me now.
Progress:
Radiator has been modified, so that that tip that points down is now lining up with the tube.
I did buy some new sparkplugs, filter and oil last week.
So slowly I am getting to putting her back together again.
Hopefully will do testrun end of this month...
Dash still not fully functional... cant get this damned tacho to work!
Need to get my link pipe sorted also, my welder is always too busy.

Cant seem to figure out why everything works, besides the tacho.
Think 7moore7 has an earlier CBR(600) dash fully functional?

Finally have a complete cooling system, hope it is fully closed.
And someone from the dutch message board has made the electra for the fans.
With 3 relais it swiches from serial (50%) to parallel (100%) when hot.
Even fits behind the saddle!
