Couple of high mileage shawk checks/preventative maintaince
Fairing edge can wear into lower radiator hose on both sides.
see picture,
Left radiator, lower flange, can wear into clutch line.
Stock rubber line protector had been worn though.
Picture shows piece of fuel line wrapped around stock protector.
~Jeffers @ 125,000 miles now.

WOW, That's a good wake up call to even us much lower mileage dudes to check hose and line runs now - and then grab the duct tape

Nothing really major.
Just the front carb diaphram and the regulator/rectifier.
Other stuff seems consumables or upgrades, like wheel and tappered steering bearings.
136.K miles now!
But I'm not putting miles on as fast lately as I bought another sport twin 2 months ago, it's an 05' SV1KS.

Should start a new thread as a comparo cuz I'm sure a few riders use these lists as information to help them choose between bikes.
There's a few things the shawk needed that the SV didn't.
I installed 320mm oversize rotors on the shawk,
The SV came with 310mm rotors that seem ample.
The SV's 46mm forks won't need a fork brace like I put on the shawk.
And I don't think I'll need to replace the SV's larger steering stem bearings with tappered ones that I put on the shawk.
The suspension on the SV is fully adjustable on both ends, rebound, compression, and preload.
And as the bikes come stock, the suspension is better on the SV.
But not nearly as good as a resprung, revalved, and reshocked shawk, like mine is.
The SV got resprung and a Penske shock, and now it's comparable, suspension wise, with my shawk.

Re: Couple of high mileage shawk checks/preventative maintai
That would be hard to say, I'm pretty infatuated with the new bike, but I've loved the shawk since I bought it new in 98'.
Seat of the pants dyno sez the shawk has a little more lowend that seems to have been enhanced with recent front velocity stack tuning.
(got a server 500 fault when I tried to upload the attachment)
That lowend grunt is a large part of the shawks appeal.
Midrange thru topend is stronger on the SV, and it has a nice snarl ripping up to it's 11.K redline.
That extra 1500 rpm on top allows you to charge further to the next corner without having to upshift.
Also the SV pulls hard all the way to redline, where the shawk seems to favor an upshift.
I was thinking of having a buddy meet me at home so I can take both bikes out for a proper test.
They're that close.
Actually my friend kai ju and I swapped bikes once, but the SV wasn't sorted yet at that time.
kai ju's streetfigher was a pretty bitchin' test ride!
