'99 Yellow SH in Corvallis. Trying to set up a ride with a friend from Albany (Kawi Z100) and a friend from Tualatin (CBR F4i). Looking at doing HWY 26 into Tillamook/Astoria area and down 101 to Pac. City and taking Valley Junction back towards Corvallis. New to SH's but been ridin about 13 years now.

so many good road between corvallis & astoria - i'd try & focus on the two locations seperately.

focus on the northern route: meet in newberg.

219 north out of newberg & hit NE bald peak rd.
W onto laurelwood / spring hill into gaston
N onto 47 then hwy 8 W ( gales creek ) to glenwood
NW timber rd to hwy 26 ( a don't miss rd ! )

backtrack E on hwy 26 to hwy 47

through vernonia ( slow through and around town - cops )
take apiary rd.
at this point you have a choice of which loop to take
meisner rd / canaan to hwy 30 & loop back on apiary to 47
( watch for signs the road back to apiary will be larson or heath )
or.

take stay on apiary & head N to clatskanie
back S on hwy 47

hwy 202 W to jewel
fishhawk falls hwy 26. ( the whole road is freshly paved )

W on hwy 26 to hwy 53
Down the famous hwy 53 toward Mohler but turn on miami river road
that runs into geribaldi & hwy 101.

thats a big day but you'll get most of the best roads in the area.


if you decide to slab a bit more into astoria hwy 202 N of jewel is pretty beat up. i havn't been on it this year ( i normally only run it once a year ) but the reports are the same as last year. understanding it's a crapy i do enjoy the route.

+1 on keeping the group smaller. Fewer people usually means fewer problems, not that problem are bad, just keeping the number of people under 7 or so is about right.

+1 on highway 53 awesome stretch of road, I also road through jewel that road was shredded it was very difficult even at speed limit pace because of how rough it was. Even if it was freshly paved it would not be a great road for beginners too many blind decreasing radias turns if I remember right.

well i hate to say it but i'm going to have to reschedule.

straight up. a ride to fossil was planned for saturday which i can go, wife has to work so i have the kids. my friends got together and change plans to make the run on sunday.

i feel back ducking out to go on another ride but the guy leading the ride knows the area really well & i've never been out there... i just have to go.

i hope you'll understand.

Cool man. I'm glad you get to go on the ride you were hoping for. I hope I can go on a jaunt with you sometime, whenever you can. I am pretty flexible, time wise, so I am ready when you are. I really want to come check out Track Day at PIR. When is that?

Anyway. Cornandp, and anyone else in the area, I want to ride somewhere, anywhere, this weekend. I want to go on the ride we have planned, but I am open to any ride at all, since I haven't been on one yet. Say the word!

aug 11 is my next trackday ( still need to sign up...lazy ***) with motocorsa.

if you have full gear you can go out on OMRRA race weekends... during lunch they have TOR ( taste of racing ). for $20 you get 20min on the track. NO instructions, just a bunch of people running around the track ... they do hold the pace to intermediate but there is always new ( slower ) riders. the nice thing is NO prep is required. street bike trim ( lights & mirrors ) all OK.

full track day is the best way to start.
cascade trackday ... not the best for entry level riders imo ( they run only 2 groups )

motocorsa. i ride just about every one. great group & i know most of the instructors.. very nice guys. ( 3 groups )

PSSR. a little more money but again top notch instruction. ( 3 groups )

all trackday orgs: the slow group (c), has instruction before you enter the track & the morning sessions are lead around the track to help with turn in , brake points & to get the flow of the racing line. the afternoon they let you pass & open it up a bit.

it can seem overwelming the first time out but everybody is very cool & make the process as easy as possible. if you decide to go out i can give you some help/advice on getting your bike prep'd etc. etc.

so many good road between corvallis & astoria - i'd try & focus on the two locations seperately.
thanks for the good info. it's not very often that i get a weekend off so i have to get in as much riding as possible. i've hit every backroad in my area so a lot of those do sound really appealing. thanks again.

If the Sunday 9:30 ride from Starbucks on Mill Plain is still on, I'd like to join up. My Hawk is an 05. Traded my 01 Gixxer1000 for it this spring. I've been riding for 38 years total. Spent 11 years with the OMRRA and carried the #1 plate in 84,85. I love the Couger to Carson loop and have ridden it many times. I live in Brush Prairie so usually go through Battle Ground or Woodland but am not picky about the direction.

You would not have to do the whole ride so you could bail after a couple of hours if it suits you. There is only two of us for Saturday right now. Let me know. Damn, the wife just vetoed my Saturday ride. Seems I promised to do some honny do's for her and she is not letting me off the hook. Sunday just got canceled too. I will make it up to you guys with another ride soon. Just got new tires for my Hawk today and need to get them mounted before I can get crazy... Lets keep in touch,

son uva B you guys sound serious about going, wish I knew where the hell these places are! Isn't Amboy where DB Cooper bailed out? Let me know if you guys could venture a little south. Does a gorge ride over Hood sound like it would suck?

I'm game for just about any ride thats in the area. Pick a meeting spot, time, and let us know your route. I am free this weekend, as of right now. No, a Hood ride does not sound like it sucks!
