and yet another new guy.....
howdy...
Always wanted to give the superchicken a go. One showed up locally for what I (hope) is a good deal and I jumped on it.
Have owned many a VFR, my first street bike being an '86 VF500. I sold my '97 VFR750 about 10 years ago so its been a while.. Something about the V motors I guess..and the twins just sound wonderful with a set of decent pipes.
anywhoo...This bike seems to run just fine, but needs a little cosmetic LOVE.
A couple of ???????'s
1. Bodywork
Bike needs a new rear cowl (red) and front fender. I priced these out at the Honda stealership and crapped myself ($340 for cowel, $140 fender)
Is there a QUALITY aftermarket tail or fender for this bike that isn't going to blow the budget?
I would prefer to keep it stock, but would love to see if any of you guys were able to tastefully retrofit another tail for a good price... Or if any of you have a nice solid red tail laying around...uh, I'd be interested!
thanks guys.

thanks for the quick reply!
yeah, I saw those full body Chinese kits. But due to a past experience, I am EXTREMELY GUNSHY in ever trying that again. I had an NSR250 MC18 about 5 years ago and ordered one of those kits from some dude in Hong Kong. When it arrived, every single piece was broken. By far the worst quality I have ever seen. To add insult to injury, I made my first ever "chargeback" through Paypal, but then had to send the parts back......to the tune of $300.00.
In the end I had to eat it.
so maybe the chinese crap has come a ways quality wise. Im not brave (or wealthy) enough to try that again.
out of morbid curiousity, are there any other bike tail sections (VFR, CBR, ECT) that is close to being a "bolt-on"?
Ill post some pics up later, but in the meantime....just picture a bone stock 2001 Red bike with a broken plastic tailsection and crack in the front fender.

welcome. do some searches and you'll find some info on the subject. Sharkskinz seems to make decent replacemnt parts. While not cheap, they are good. There's also a guy in TX that posts some things on ebay every once in a while. I'm not sure if he has rear cowls though.

thanks Old Yeller...
I went to the Sharkskinz website and see that they have a few options...all around $225-$250.
Any of you guys mounted a Sharkskinz tailsection? Opinions? Photos?
Another board member PM'd me (Partsguy) that he had a nice front fender and Im just waiting for photos, so I may have that sorted depending on how nice it is.
thanks again.
