It finally stopped raining. The path from my shop, where I keep my bikes and my drive way is a pure muddy mess but I managed to get the VTR out by riding carefully and with very careful throttle control.

I put a number of highway miles on her and checked the gas mileage which turned out to be 32 mpg. This is about what I suspected.

I may have to sell this bike. It is huge fun but it is a struggle to keep the bike at or even near legal limits. On my ride today I was consciously trying to keep to the posted limits. If my mind wandered or if I started to ride the bike where it felt comfortable I found I was in the 80 to 90 mph range.

I am not saying it's not fun but my wife will kill me if I start collecting performance awards.

Best reason to keep her BigJim. I cruise at 90 mph! Nice thing about here in Florida, a lot of riders and plenty of police free back roads....

I guess I got a bit spooked my first time out. Now i have been trying to ride like a cruiser or (dare I say) a Harley rider.

Oh speaking of I pulled into a gas station t top off and there was a big gathering of Harley riders milling around. I popped the throttle open for a quick blast from the Two Brother and every head snapped up like they had heard a gun shot. It was great.

Big Jim,

Upgrade your front brakes with CBR 600 F4i calipers and they will slow you down plenty quick.

I went for a nice ride today and almost got busted doing 80 in a 60 Zone.

Because of the power and gearing these bikes just love to sit on 80 in top gear. from there it gets better which is a major problem for me.

I regularly ride with a bunch that likes to explore the upper limits. I guess it's a chance we all take .

Dont need to go that far. Ive fitted hh+ DP pads. Brakes are epic. Never had a bike that stops so well.

I got mine legal again today after its inspection. Guy didnt want to ride it as it scared him.

I cleaned the pistons and pad locating pins on my front brakes with simple green and dish soap, then cleaned and lubed my front brake lever pivot. Feels like a new set of brakes.

Andy, you'd be wise to use some brake grease on the pins and antisieze on the pin threads and brake bolts. All those heat cycles make them hard or implossible to remove later.

I did nothing today, but I found this on Ebay at a good price.
Keeping fingers crossed that it arrives in good condition.
I know, I will likely have to respring/revalve forks. And find hi risers.

Still doesn't show up for me. Whenever I copy and paste the URL's, my iPad crashes.

Eric, maybe upload the pictures to Photobucket or another picture site?

I don't think Wolverine was there.
I hope Eric is ok. Sorry to see all the damage, but if life and limb are ok, there are plenty of other motorbikes to ride.

Edit:
I see Eric posted this a while back:

"So, my bike and I decided to take a journey. Sadly for the bike, it included a 8 foot hill.

Frame, motor, forks, swingarm are all undamaged. But I'm going to need some parts.

In need of:
Front fairing mount (same one that holds the gauges)
Right radiator
Rear Subframe
50mm clip-ons
Rear tail fairing/plastic
Front windscreen

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Thank you for your time.

-Eric "

So glad to see he plans to repair the hawk.
Now, who has some parts he can use?

Yikes! Hit a tree too. Man, that could have been a lot worse.

I am selling him a fairing stay.

Geez,

At least it's repairable and hopefully everyone is O.K.

Keep us posted on the repair.

On the bright side , a good excuse for some mods!

I installed two nifty adjustable levers. I purchased them from China (off ebay) about a month ago and when they came in, the brake side didn't fit. I contacted the seller and received the correct part in the mail. They are shorter then to OEM levers but they don't stick out past the end of the bar so they might escape damage in a tip over. They work really well and replace the bent original ones.

Took the Hawk over the North Cascades Highway and camped on the other side of the mountains. The weather was warm and clear and the scenery was stunning. The bike did quite well on the twisty parts of the highway.
I used the Sargeant seat I bought from a forum member so I wouldn't need to pry the cowl off the stock seat again. It worked well as the Sergeant had 2 more cable hooks than the stock seat. I lashed my tent, sleeping bag, and pad to the seat. I wore a small backpack for everything else. Got to the campground at 2:30 Saturday afternoon and just chilled out.
I got food and ale at the nearby town of Mazama and ate back at the campground. Sunday morning I ate breakfast at the Mazama Country Inn, fueled up with no-ethanol premium and headed back. The ride was even better as there was less traffic on the highway westbound in the morning. I saw a red SuperHawk going the other way as I went through the town of Oso. Any of you guys out that way around noon?

Happened over Memorial Day Weekend, but the pictures didn't load the first time.

Almost all the parts are in to fix her up.

Eric, I see you might need another fan. I have one laying around I could have sent you in the box along with the fairing stay. Nuts. Well, let me know if you actually need the fan, and we will work something out.

As far as I can tell, it spins freely and doesn't seem to have any mounting point issues. I won't know till I get the radiator off and have a good look at it.

Welcome Bambus!
Check out your cam chain tensioner and regulator/rectifier status if you have not already. Again welcome.
But post photos or your "new" bike or it didn't happen.

Finished my bar conversion on the weekend without up and back blocks. Feels good but will be a day or two before I can ride it.
