Finally changed my chain and sprockets, they were so worn it was like having traction-control. Anything more than 1/2 throttle and the front sprocket would slip on the chain.

Muuuuuch better now!

Alright, I have been doing some riding and tweaking of the a/f screw. I decided to revert to 45 pilots and set the a/f screw to 2.25 front and 2.5 rear. The plugs looked real good, none too rich, but my fuel mileage suffered needlessly. My bike ran great with the 45s for 44k miles so it has been proven. Whats gone is the slight flat spot between 3k and 4k from shimming the needles. Now I have my easy starting and idle and warm-up from the stock set-up and the filled in midrange, topend was and is grrreat. I'm thinking I may have to adjust the fuel screw for any minor tweaks and we are nearly done.
So to recap; jets are 45 pilots, 75/78 mains,1 front slide hole filled in, front needle shimmed .050, rear .060, screws set to 2.25 front, 2.5 rear, throw on a slappy carb sync and I eagerly await a test ride.

More pics from taskmasta please!

Glock, have noticed in you dealings if the AF screws does anything significant to being able to start without the choke? (in warm weather)

Not yet but I am just now stabilizing after pulling and tuning the carbs 4 or 5 times. When I went to the 48 pilots it did not want to start, warm up or cold idle as well as before. I only need the choke for the first start of the day. But it still wants choke then.

Took my usual weekend sprint through the twisties in the hills of Portola Valley.

Now that I'm learning each corners entry and exit, things are really spicing up!!

jed, that is awesome. I did the same thing back in the day when I rode a cbr600.

I then welded 2 two inch tubes upright onto it to support a removeables luggage rack for a givi, which also provided a backrest for the passenger.

With the Sargent seats for the VTR being discontinued I finally broke down and ordered a new seat for my '03. I've had Sargent seats on my other bikes and loved them. Considering all the other updates I've made to this bike don't know why it's taken me so long to upgrade the seat. In contrast though, this stock seat has been much more comfy than the stock on the others that have already been replaced. Looking forward to it though!

Installed a 43 rear sproket on saturday... not as WOW! as others have described.. maybe pulls up the front end a little easier in 1st.. but one guy was saying you could roll on in 2nd and bring the front up.. I couldn't.. speed-0 is ~10km/h off when doing 80km/h and about 13km/h off at 120 km/h..

Well I started on what was supposed to be a nice long ride through the hills of Kentucky, but picked up some metal trash left by someone else.

Apparently it's okay to drop bits of scrap metal here and there, so that others might end up having an unusual day. I tried to get through it and not run over any, but that did not happen.

So I roll into a gas station and notice the bike feels a bit funny when I'm stopping and then a courteous individual tells me that my back tire is quite low. I looked and knew exactly what happened.

After I fill up, I roll about 300 yards to the next gas station that has air and filled er up. I needed to get about 15 miles to the Advance Auto in the next little town for a can of you know what. I made it there but wouldn't have made it much farther.

$9 later and I'm on my 14 mile ride back home. By the time I got home the tire had lost a little air but was manageable. Upon inspection of my well used M3, I see a 1/2 inch stab wound right where it hurts. Oh well, such is life.

I have a set of Pilots to put on anyway, so Monday the tires and wheels will be changed.

And today the weather was perfect for a long ride, too. I hope you all had a great day and a good ride.

Full wax detail and
Installed a pair of F4i calipers I've had laying around for too long. Was waiting to get a set of steel lines but I had some free time. Now I just need to go for a ride...

Trawling the buying

So last night started trawling the forum for gems of wisdom on carb set-up seeing as my near stock machine will be coming off the road shortly for a rebuild... then trawling the classified for bits.. big thanks to 19superchicken98 for parting out his machine. Should have a second long Velocity Stack and Fuel sender unit inbound this week.

Did find one gem last night that prompted a quick trip to the garage. I have no idea there was a tensioning **** on the choke cable! Have been using a cloths peg for the last year! Lol
Quick squirt with WD40 down the line and a twist and hey presto smooth choke!

Picked up my lightened flywheel from a machinist friend (ditchfield spec), and installed it. Now waiting on an alternator cover gasket. Installed remote vacuum lines so i can sync the carbs by taking only the seat off. Also installed a new "mudflap" shock protector.

After needing a push start last week to get home I scoured the forum for info an ended up testing the electrical system and found out I had a bad stator grounding out. So today I finished up installing new stator, R1-R/R, new wiring and connectors for good measure. New batt as well. Running good and stable now! Tha ks to all that have left great instructions and help to the others thr need to know!!

Tear down and cleaned all accessible crevices with a toothbrush, q-tips, and scotch-brite and simple green followed up with a freshwater wash down. Armorall'd all rubber and then 50/50 mix of meguiar's Black Detailer and Quick Detailer on the plastics and tank. Looks pretty close to show room condition. I did how ever find the rear APE CCT has(d) oil on the threads of the adjuster bolt guessing the Oring is torn...? O well that's all for today. Happy 4th ya'll
