glad you're ok. I dumped my hawk 3 days after I bought it. first and only time in 10 years I've gone down on a street bike. don't feel too bad. just in case you don't think of it, make sure your clip-ons are still where they should be. they will protect your fairings but they get bent. wind blew mine over at the beginning of this season. the fairing was untouched, but the clip-on was 2" lower on that side. and with regard to not riding and walking instead, it might be the prudent move, but c'mon guys... the kid is in college. he had a big loud motorcycle. he's gonna ride that thing every chance he gets. I would. think about it. hmm, will I walk to class with my spiffy bookbag and pen protector? or am I gonna roll up on my THUNDER MACHINE!!!maybe chicks dig pen protectors more now that when I was in school but I doubt it. risk is everywhere. take your ego out of the equation when you are riding, get a leather jacket, and add ego back in as you are walking from the bike to wherever after you park it.

IMO, you should be dragging knees before the pegs ever scrape. Hang off a little more and you won't need to lean the bike over so much.

As as you know, when you scrape the pegs hard enough, it will take some weight off the rear tire.

Good to see you're ok...and your hawk sustained MINIMAL damage (just ask mine).
Stock pegs? They have a "hanger" down there, you might (not sure) scrape sooner w/the hawk than with the ninja.

I took off the peg feelers and the left one had some major abrasion to it in all directions- a lot more than after my last trip up the mountain. Figuring it caught the pvmt and pivoted my *** to the ground.

I have been looking for a pair of leather pants with sliders and am having some trouble finding any. I look down at my legs mid turn now and then and my denim clad knees are pretty close.

Since I'm posting, couple questions about the after math-
-IV LP flushmounts- smoked or amber on a red bike?
-Bike wont start unless in neutral, even with stand up.. Switch busted??
-Are the black OE style clutch levers listed as VTR1000 replacements really hydraulic clutch compatable????

Where do you go to school? I grew up in northern VT and almost went to Vermont Tech for architecture, but ended up in AZ instead. Then went back to Norwich Univ for a business degree. You go to either of those? or to groovy u-vee?

Glad to hear that you didn't get too hurt. Scapes and bruises suck, but don't leave you walking with a limp for the rest of your life!!!

What about commercial/condo construction? Design firms, design-build firms? I'm ME and just got my PE, I'd like to think I could relocate up there and find work if I put my mind to it, I love the area.

I recommend you get into software engineering. There are lots of high paying jobs out there. You can specialize in computational biology or bioinformatics. Biotech companies are hot right now and should be for a while.

I cannot and most of you cannot go to work in leathers. What the Capt suggests is gear that you wear under your jeans.

I wear them - they are crash tested.

It is what it is. I have a passion for Construction and civil engineering. I'm not selling my soul to go into a more lucrative branch of engineering. There is going to be billions to be made in alternative energy infrastructure. After I get my PE me and my buddy would like to start an excavation/construction/engineering firm (design build all the way) to do general site work and residential/pre fab steel construction but also to install wind turbines and get a drill rig for geothermal systems. Its gunna take a lot of capitol to get off the ground but we've got some family connections in the local construction industries and some probably investors. We will obviously need an ME at some point for our turbines and geothermal cycle design so if any of you Pencil Pushers wants a job in four years.....

ps NWbrew- I go to UVM go cats go

Very nice, sounds like you have a good plan. Energy infrastructure is totally fascinating and is going to see some really cool stuff happening in the next few years. So no more dropping bikes!

Hockey season is kicking off (today isn't it?). Since you're in a different division than the Cadets, I can give ya a Go Cats!
