Today's Dyno Results

Since I'm planning to install high compression pistons and have some valve, cam and port work done to my Superhawk I wanted to get a baseline dyno run to compare where I am now with what I end up with.

My Hawk is a 1998 model with about 16,000 miles. It has D&D slipons, a stock air filter, shimmed needles and +1 size on the main jets. Otherwise everything is stock.

I don't have the graphs from the dyno run yet, but I will post them here when I get them, which should be in the next day or two.

The best run was just over 104 HP with 66.5 lb. ft. of torque. The graph is smooth with a dip around 4000 rpm indicating that the engine would probably benefit from changing the pilot jets to 48s. This confirms my seat of the pants impression of a slight flat spot or hesitation low in the rev range. Not bad, but not perfect. Top end jetting looks just about right.

I'd call that a slow needle. Anyway, congrats on the run.

Re: Today's Dyno Results

Could be. It does seem a little high to be the pilots.

Re: Today's Dyno Results

I thought slow and pilot were different names for the same jet.

Slow Jet is another name for Pilot Jet. I mean the needle is rising too slowly. It could be set too low or it could have a taper that is too blunt.

Re: Today's Dyno Results

Well, the needle is the stocker shimmed a little. The mechanic at my shop says he has done jet kits on several VTRs and always changes the pilots to 48's, but I bet at the same time he installs the Factory needles as well. It probably is the needle taper.

Re: Today's Dyno Results

Here is the dyno graph. The dip is pretty ugly.

Stick another washer under it. The dip is right in the middle of the needle circuit range.
