tire pressure revisited
After several thousand miles, my Power Pures are at the wear bars. I've experimented with tire pressures, from 28 to 36 rear and 28 to 34 front(cold), and have leaned toward 32 rear and 30 front for one-up, light load, canyon-type riding for best grip and feel. Increasing pressures results in noticeable harshness and less grip whereas lower pressures are smoother and more predictable according to my perceptions.
Many riders adhere to the standard 36/42psi cold, most likely because it is manufacturer specified and/or to maximize longevity, because it is listed on the side of the tire, or maybe just for peace of mind.
It is obvious when listening to experts, sales personnel, and tire reps that there is a reluctance to openly dispute OEM specified pressures. For example:
Michelin Tires | Michelin Motorcycle Tire | Michelin Pilot Power 2ct | Power One
In addition, the manufacturers engrave the OEM suggested pressures like 36/42 on their tires. It's interesting, for example, that 42psi noted on the Power Pure rear for max weight is the same rating as the Michelin dimensional chart below which specifies 33psi is sufficient for the same load rating.

I found this chart accidentally because I'm thinking of trying some different size Power Pures(another thread to discuss this), but relative to pressures, i rely on my own seat-of-the-pants perceptions and am somewhat more concerned with grip than wear, although still interested in wear, running safe pressures, and manufacturer data.
This is the the first time I've seen manufacturer data that directly conflicts with OEM specs and even what's posted on their own tires.

i can't believe these suggested race pressures
how about 21psi cold. wow!
Another interesting suggestion is the preference of a 5.50 rim for the 190/55.
